Valk... that's my partners name lol.... get your head out of the gutter, not that kind of partner. :neener:

I just traded off my beater Glock 22C for an XD45 Service model. I think this may be the polymer gun that 1911 guys have been wanting (well save for an STI). It is a really handy size, packs 13 rounds of 230 grain goodness, and is comfy in the hand. I will be trekking to the range here in a bit to run some rounds through her. Having had XDs in other calibers, I expect no problems. I generally don't get excited about striker fired guns, but the XD is a different story. The right caliber, the right size, and the right features from a quality company that listens to its customers. I hope they move the other calibers to this frame size, as an 18 shot 9mm or 15 shot 40 would be easy to do and truly take on Glock round for round.

I also have a customized Glock 21. It won't be sold but I doubt it would have ever been bought if this XD had been available at the time. I would likely have a 5" XD serving in the home defense role the Glock 21 currently occupies. Who knows, that may still happen if I can bring myself to eat the cost of all the extras I added to the 21.

XD9 Service

I have FTEs every 50 to 100 rounds with about 400 rounds thru it so far. I believe it is due to limp wristing. That said, who can guarantee they WON'T limp wrist in a situation?

I keep reading posts about never a failure. I have either a bad one (ported by the way) or others are not firing under other than perfectly gripped situations.

Still, I like the XD. I would not buy another, though, as I prefer to have some variety and I only buy what I can afford to shoot--9mm.

Thanks. Merry Xmas.

I have a 5" O.D. Green XD-45LE, that's the .45GAP. I love it. I was going to trade it for an XD-45 in ACP, but it shoots so well that I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

How well made is it?
It's made very well. It's been dropped from 3 feet onto tile and carpet just to do it and it took it with easy and didn't release the firing pin.

How does it shoot?
As far as stock pistols go it's very accurate. It's probably the only pistol I own that has the potential to be more accurate than me. I have no problems hitting 6" and 4" steel targets at 50 yards, and even rapid fire can keep it minute of pie plate at that distance.

How reliable is it?
I notice when I'm at the range I'm the only one not fooling around with my weapon not including the revolver guys. Once it had about 300 rounds through it, it ran like a champ. It's now around 5000 rounds and I honestly can't remember the last time it jammed.

How is it's accuracy?
Like I said, it may be more accurate than I am.

Has any parts rusted?
No, I take care of my firearms. What did you people do before todays highspeed low drag coatings and polymers? Me, I oiled things. Still do, that's why my guns don't rust.

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
I would recommend it if it fit them. But it's where I always steer people.

Is it better or worse than a Glock?
I think they are far superior to a Glock. Some models of Glock have non-fully supported chambers, that's not a worry with an XD as ALL of them have fully supported chambers.

With so many other well made guns out there, I wouldn't consider something so ugly as the HD. Even a Glock looks better.

So I am wondering how everyone would rate the Springfield XD???
10 out of 10.

How well made is it?
As good or better than any other gun I've ever had.

How does it shoot?
Like a champ

How reliable is it?
The next malfunction will be the first.

How is it's accuracy?
Better than I can shoot it.

Has any parts rusted?
No, and I don't worry too much about it.

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
Without hesitation

Is it better or worse than a Glock?
No better, no worse IMHO

Wow 6 percent of the voters here think a sharp stick is a better weapon then an XD. I think most of these '6%' are probably lemons or what have you...

Yours is positively a lemon! The first time shooters I've taken to the range (w/ little to no prior experience) have made it go bang everytime it was supposed to. These people have no clue what 'limp wristing' is and i bet some do it. Still, never seen a malf.

Love my XD .40 Service, and am considering a Subcompact 9mm. Reliability-wise, I've had a little trouble with feeding from one of the Clinton mags it came with, but the other 10 rounder and all of my 12 rounders are running great. I have had some surface rust appear after carrying all day and absolutely soaking it with sweat. In regards to the older finish, I will say that the XD needs a bit more attention to upkeep and maintanence than some other pistols. However, the new Melonite, or whatever it's called that they're applying nowdays, is supposed to be much better. I prefer the XD to the Glock I used to have based solely on ergonomics. The XD is just simply better suited to people with average to small hands. The Glock trigger is better, being shorter, a little crisper, and with a far shorter reset. However, the XD trigger is still great. I do long for the Glock's super-short reset though.

Now, the worst thing I can say about the XD is that you cannot buy parts for it from Springfield Armory. If you lose a spring, you must send the entire pistol back to SA for them to work on it. Figure $50 to $60 in shipping, and being without your pistol for 3 weeks or 3 months. It's a stupid policy. But (crossing fingers) I've never needed replacement parts for mine.

I decided to have a marathon session at the range two days ago. 500 rounds thru my RRA Elite Car and 500 rounds thru my XD45 Tactical 5".

The XD45 continues to shine. Zero failures. Great triggger. Accurate as heck. Great feel in my hand for such a big gun. I was in the groove today. Several range newbies stopped to watch my friend and myself blow some single, ragged holes in our targets. For anyone on the fence about an XD45 especially the 5" Tactical.....you really can't go wrong with this handgun.

13+1 of fun loving .45 ACP!

So I am wondering how everyone would rate the Springfield XD???

How well made is it?
As good or better than Glock, IMHO.

How does it shoot?
It's a pleasure to shoot, fits my hand well. Points well also.

How reliable is it?
2000+ rnds. and ZERO malfunctions, even with really crappy handloads bought from a crazy old coot at a gun show.

How is it's accuracy?
If I really try and concentrate, I can hit clays at 50 yards.

Has any parts rusted?
Nope.

Would you buy another or recommend it to a friend?
My mother carries an XD9 for CCW.

Is it better or worse than a Glock?
Never owned(but have shot several different models) a Glock but I know they are excellent weapons. My xd fit my hand better, came up on target better, looks better... I say yeah, better than a glock.

P.S. My mom gets a misfeed once and a while but she's 50, she's 5 foot nothing, and 100lbs. if that. She can't help but limpwrist sometimes.

I own three XD 40s, the Tactical, Service and SC.

I have had no problems with the SC at all after about 1500 rounds. This one is my favorite, and would be the one I would choose if I could have only one.
It is also my primary CCW.

I have had one feed problem with the Service model, but it was due to a bent magazine (dropped on a concrete floor in an IPSC match). This one has had about 3500 rounds through it.

The Tactical did have a problem with the FP bullets I reload. I switched to RNFP and no more problems. This one I have shot the least, but still has had about 1000 rounds through it. It is my least favorite, not that there is anything wrong with it, I just like and shoot the others better.

Accuracy is good with all three, out to 25 yards.

I have had no rust issues. The SC finish does show some holster wear. For me, it is not a big deal. I clean it often.

I would buy another, and probably will buy one of the 45 ACP models. I recommend them often, and at least two co-workers have purchased XDs.

It is better than a Glock for me, that doesn't mean it would be for everyone. I have been able to do some side by side comparisons with similar Glocks due to a friend being an avid Glock owner. The XD just fits me better, and I can get on target for a follow up shot quicker with the XD than the Glock. I can't say they are more accurate than the Glocks though.

My 2nd post on this. "Would you buy another or reccommend it to a friend?" Yep,saw my brother on Christmas. He was asking about my XD-40 & admiring it. I told him he should get a 40 or 45 & now he has mine. I loaned it to him til next time I see him so he can make a better (post-shooting & carrying) decision. I'm don't want to start another Glock vs. Whatever discussion but he thinks he'll trade his Glock in on one.

Love mine and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I own Glocks and HKs too, but my XD45 tac is a better shooter and handles better (for me). In fact, it's my favorite non-1911 I own.

After I bought my XD45 tac, I sold my USP. Just as reliable, more accurate, cheaper mags, fit my hands better.

+1 HK USP

maybe i got a lemon XD40 but after that experience i will never look at SA XDs again

xd quality

ok- figure that since i owned one i'll give it my two cents...again...this is personal opinion...take it for what it's worth.

i used to own a XD40 tactical (5inch barrel) in olive drab.
the gun was excellent. i would estimate that i put over 1500 rounds through that gun. not a single failure to feed or eject. nothing. i used a lot of cheap practice ammo including wolf aluminum ammo and other abominations.
hollow points fed flawlessly as well..not a single hickup. i also liked the way it felt in my hand, it was quite ergonomic (more than say many 1911's).
here's what i didn't like...no external manual safety ...the gun has a trigger, grip and internal drop safety, but there is obviously no way to either decock or manually block the pin from the outside. this may be more of a psychological issue than a true technical/safety problem but i never felt comfortable keeping that gun with a round in the chamber....maybe that's just me.
only other gripe i had was the quality of the slide's finish. it scratched up fairly quickly...i understand though that Springfield A. has made improvements to the finishing process since then.
