Might seem like a dumb question but I'm curious how you guys would rate the follow brands of ammo from best to worst?

CCI Blazer Brass
CCI Blazer
Winchester White Box
Sellier & Bellot
Magtech
American Eagle
Remington UMC

Just curious what I should generally be reaching for at the store and what I should be avoiding.

Thanks guys!

Magtech
American Eagle
Sellier & Bellot
CCI Blazer
CCI Blazer Brass
Winchester White Box
Remington UMC

With your list this is what I'd rate. I really like Magtech, and American Eagle is a powerful load. UMC sucks, and White box is DIRTY

One you may want to look for is Speer Lawman.

I've never seen Speer Lawman ammo before. I'll have to keep an eye out.

This is just a list of the FMJ ammo that is plentiful at my local Cabela's. Just curious what I should be buying for my range use.

Being that I am new to the wonderful world of handguns, I have limited knowledge (and use) of ammo, but I have been using Blazer Brass 115gr FMJ from Wally World. It's inexpensive and seems to work well with my 9mm.

I really like S&B ammo. Loaded hot and reasonable priced. I also like Magtech ammo. When I first got my SIG P220, I carried Magtech Guardian Gold +P 230ge JHP's. It was very reliable and accurate.

CCI Blazer Brass
Used couple of boxes of the 9mm today. My pistols eat it up "like candy". Wally World has the best price around here. I do like Speer's Lawman, but seem to be out of stock with my Internet supplier....:)

Speer Lawman is some of the CLEANEST ammo I've fired. Also very accurate.

Any one of the mfg's listed would be fine for plinking.

thats funny that White box was dirty. im not sating your wrong but i have shot the blazer's before and my shooting hand was almost black. i really like federal american eagle the most

It's funny you say that, American Eagle has funked up my gun worse than Wolf has.

i have never had an issue with any of them, they are acceptable enough for the kinda work that i do at the range.

I have never made a big deal out of dirty ammo. After all you are supposed to clean your gun after each use anyway.
I have not tried all of the above mentioned, but shoot the Blazer brass quite often. My XD 45 compact likes it for the most part.

I have never had ammo problems shooting all of the brands above over the past 20 years (except I have never tried Magtech). Buy cheap and shoot often.

The only genuinely POS crap ammo I have experienced is a brand called "American Ammunition" where I have seen up to 30% failures out of the case.

For range use:
I have shot about 10,000 rounds of CCI Blazer (aluminum case) over the last couple of years. Never any problems. Accuracy is good. I haven't been able to find anything cheaper. If I could I would probably shoot it.

for defense: None of the ones listed.

I haven't tried any of the steel cased stuff. Probably won't.

Best? Too many variables: Gun, Shooting what?, Shooter.

For range use: Win White box gives you a nice box to put your reloads in.
Win Value pack is cheaper. Both are reliable for most guns/shooters.

One of my guns doesn't like Blazer aluminum but shoots Blazer brass nicely.

I won't shoot steel.

Besides the obvious Wolf.

I have shot thousands of rounds of wolf ammo w/o a problem. I dont shoot it anymore w/ pistols since I reload I want/need brass ammo. I still shoot lots of wolf in my rifles.

Given the choice, I would also choose Speer Lawman training ammo over any of the others. It's loaded a bit hotter than other range ammo, so your experience at the range is more similar to that of shooting your defensive ammo. That said, it is more expensive and less available than the others, so I usually end up shooting Remington UMC or Blazer Brass.

I would rate them in this order.

CCI Blazer Brass
CCI Blazer
American Eagle
Winchester White Box
Sellier & Bellot
Magtech
Remington UMC

I think CCI's ammo is the cleanest burning and most reliable of any ammo out there.
