Long distance needs tighter ES& SD numbers than close range. It's just not needed to shoot ones at short range.

This is one of my auto tricklers beside my A&D FX-120i.
If you already have the scale, measure and trickler the photo electric switch is the most expensive part at just under $15 shipped.
The one above uses a gear motor I already had on hand but it’s kind of loud and way overkill.
This is the last one I threw together.
Walkalong if your interested, I am about done playing with the A&D. It’s only been used for verification and never even had the protective cover removed.

These same guys are shooting sub 2" groups at 500 or 600 yards. I agree with you though, the accuracy of the ammunition is far more important as you get into longer ranges. That doesnt mean Im not going to try and get the best SDs and best groups at 100 though that I can.
