RCBS Military Crimp Remover

OK, so I bought the RCBS crimp remover tool. Am I supposed to remove material from the primer pocket until the case head is touching the flat face of the tool?

It seem like an awful lot of material to remove.

I assume that you useing a reamer not a swager. The military primer crimp is just on the leading edge of the pocket, so in order to remove only the crimp I wouldn't think it would be necessary to go all the way to the floor of the primer pocket. I could be wrong maybe they make the reamer with a taper and you would need to go in deep. I swage my crimped primer pockets, I've used both a dillon and rcbs and prefer the dillon. I like the idea of not removing material if I don't have too

the only military crimp removers I can find on Midway are the RCBS ones. I searched on dillon but no results came up.

If you've got alot of brass that needs crimps removed, the Dillon Super Swage 600 is the only way to go.

This tool looks like a drill bit protruding from a flange. It's listed as an accessory to the trim-mate tool.

So am I supposed to be remving material until the case head and the flange touch?

I have the RCBS primer pocket swaging kit that is like a die, with what they call a "washer" that slips over the swaging punch (which goes into the press ram like a shellholder). The rod in the die pushes the case down onto the swaging punch when the press handle is operated, then the "washer" comes up and removes the case from the punch when the ram is lowered all the way. It works....but not that well on some cases. It can still be hard to seat primers, and the result, with some, will still be deformation. I run my military brass (never done much, most I've bought has had the mil crimp removed) through this RCBS dingus, and then I still take the edge off the pocket with a couple of turns with my Wilson chamfering tool. That works. It seems to be important to have a tool that puts a certain radius on the primer pocket edge; maybe that Dillon swager wil do it, but I'd never pay that much for it, since I just don't have that much mil brass to mess with.
