RCBS Pro2000 or I caved in

After reading & re-reading the great reviews both by Peter M. Eick here and Yo over at GT I caved in and ordered one of these units from Grafs last Sunday & it arrived on my road Friday afternoon. At $299 plus free shipping it was too hard to pass it up (but I gave it a valiant effort for about 15 minutes).

I've been reloading on a Rock Chucker for a long time & got into it when I was mainly reloading for my .30-06. Nowadays I find myself shooting more pistol calibers & want to reload for 10mm, .45, & .38/.357. The progressive style of press was making more sense.

Thinking seriously about the Pro 2000. Probably don't need it , but the price is mighty tempting. Did the press come with a shellplate of your choice or did you have to order separately ?

I know this is dragging up an old thread, but I'm in the market for a Pro2000 - don't suppose anyone is sellinf them for $300 anymore? Cheapest I can find is $350+

I just bought my Pro 2000 last week from Graf & Son last week for $299 with free shipping.

The website still shows them available. If you go online, you need to click on Closeouts. Then click on reloading equipment. Go to page 21. Their telephone number is 800-531-2666.

The catalog they sent with the press said they bought out some distributor that had a lot of RCBS of stuff.

I bought mine when they first came out. I think around 02/00. I had been using a Piggyback conversion and the Pro 2000 takes the same shell plates. Anyway, the Pro 2000 is a great press. I've loaded thousands of rounds of most pistol calibers with no problems. I buy the extra die plates and set my dies up on them. Very easy to change calibers. Takes minutes to change the shell plate, die plate, primer seater plug and adjust the powder measure.
RCBS customer service is awsome.
BTW, $299 shipped is a great price. They are heavy duty and weigh a bunch.

After some initial glitches I love my Pro 2000. I took a good look at Peters set up and I changed a few things. One I immediately went out and bought a clamp on mini light that shines into the case so I can see the powder. Two, I bought a tall bar stool that sits me high enough to look into the case.

I empty the primer jar frequently and listen for the clunk every time I pull the lever. If I don't hear it I immediately look at the primer tube to see if a primer didn't make it down.

All of the problems I have had with this is with the spent primer working its way down the line and jamming the priming strip. I've ruined 3 strips by this.

Now, that I have it down I can load what I want with it.

Peter, just to let you know, your review was a huge influence in my decision to buy the Pro 2000. I am still in the process of setting everything up and I use your review as a reference.
