rcbs turret and uniflow question

I just picked up an rcbs turret press and have mounted a uniflow powder measure on it. The question pertains to mounting the uniflow in line with the dies. I mounted a sizer/decapping dies then as I move it left to an expander die and then I tried to mount the powder measure then the crimp/seating die in order. The issue is the uniflow won't move past the primer holder sticking up from the base of the press. It won't clear it. Anyone who's used one of these or seen one will know what I mean. So I had to mount the crimp/seating die out of order so I have to go two stops after belling the case to drop powder then one back to seat and crimp.

Has anyone set one of these presses up with a powder measure on it and worked around this or am I just going to have to get used to this? It's not terrible as long as I make sure to pay attention to what I'm doing. I am using this more as a progressive than doing things in batches so going across in order would have been nice.

Anyone with any suggestions to this? Thanks.

John

I've been using an RCBS turret for about 3 years. When I bought it, the mounting base for the Uniflow (to mount on a bench) was missing, so I put the Uniflow on the press. It was such a PITA that I quickly called RCBS and they mailed me a mounting base which I've used ever since. I never mounted the primer gadget - I've used a Lee hand primer from the start.

My suggestion, obviously, is to put the Uniflow on your bench (and to use a hand primer).

You say you like to do one round at a time instead of doing the steps in batches. Have you tried the batch method? I think most people find that the batch method is a lot more efficient and no less accurate or safe. I know it seems like it partially defeats the purpose of having a turret press, but it doesn't at all. The turret feature is a big time saver even if you work in batches.

Ya, I did batch on a single stage rock chucker. It works and I kept cases in diffent stages apart. I prefer to handle the case once and move through the stages. If I was going to batch still, I probably would have just stayed with the RC. I set the dies and then just screw them on and off. No big deal, I just got tired of handling the cases numerous times. The powder drop on the turret works fine and I put the auto drop on it. That part is fine. It's just I have to pass and then move back for the seat and crimp. It's not a big deal, I just thought maybe I was missing something. Thanks again.

I have had a Rock chucker from the start, 12 years ago and use the batch method. When i get back from the range i throw them right in the tumbler and then resize and decap, then i will bell and prime and just put them in a coffee can till needed.
Then its just a matter of powder and seating and done. Reason i do it this way is i used to let them mount up till there were quite a few and then going thru the whole process at once is no fun. Thats why i never got a turret because i want to do it at my leisure but everyone is different.
