Re-blueing old shotgun

So I got an old knickerbocker side by side 12 gauge. Im not sure how old it is, It is hammerless, has a 28 inch barrel. all the serial numbers match. I dont think its worth anything, if im wrong please let me know! anyway, it shoots pretty well but is starting to get some breach slop so I dont want to shoot it much more. I think it will make a nice wall hanger though. All of the original finish is gone on the barrel and receiver and it doesnt really look nice enough to hang on the wall. my question is if any of the store bought re-blueing stuff is worth spending money on. The gun will probably never be shot again so durability is not a problem, just weather or not it will look decent enough to hang on the wall.

Brownell's Oxpho-Blue is about the best one I know of. Apply with fine steel wool and keep rubbing.

However, no cold-blue job is ever gonna fool anyone into thinking it is a new Parker or L. C. Smith!

BTW: You cannot have it hot blued because it is put together with soft solder joints between the barrels.

The slow rust process is perfect for old doubles but very expensive for a wall hanger. It can be done at home with the right equipment but I doubt that fireman is interested in that kind of an investment.

rcmodel is 100% correct about hot bluing. If you were to put those barrels in a hot caustic bluing tank you'd pull them out in several pieces. Another option is Belgian bluing but it's still spendy for a hanger.

It CAN be done.

I never said it couldn't be done.
I said it couldn't be done with a hot blue set-up.

Obviously, they can be rust blued, because they were rust blued in the first place.
