Reasonable price for a 2nd gen SAA Colt.45 cylinder

What do you folks out there think is a reasonable price for a 2nd gen SAA Colt .45 cylinder. I found one in good shape with the Colt rampart stamp on it for $200. Is that within reason? They seem to be hard to find.

That is a reasonable price for one.

A new Uberti cylinder is $127.00!

And you can't buy a Colt 3rd. Gen cylinder without sending the gun to them so they can slip the base pin in.

My copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's The Colt Single Action Revolvers - A Shop Manual Vol. 1 & 2 contains some warnings concerning Replica vs. Colt SAA cylinders because they're dimensional differences between them. One importer (Early-Modern Firearms or EMF) used to advertise that they're line of Pietta-made clones had parts - including cylinders - that would fit Generation 1 and 2 Colt's, but I never tried this.

VTI Gunparts (www.vtigunparts.com) are one of the larger suppliers of parts for replica C&B and SAA revolvers, and I strongly suggest that one check with them to confirm what fits what. Over time changes are sometimes made.

No I was just say'n an italian cylinder costs over half as much as the real Colt cylinder you found.

On the other hand, I have a Uberti 32-20 I built by dropping a 1st. gen Colt barrel and cylinder in a Uberti .45 Colt frame.

Other then indexing the barrel and setting the gap, it fit perfectly.

That may be a problem here. I believe the idea here is to fit a new cylinder into a 2nd. Generation Colt, while making no alterations to the revolver. Setting the barrel back (or whatever) isn't an option.

That is why I wasn't trying to suggest he put a Uberti cylinder in a 2nd gen Colt!

I was just saying a Uberti cylinder costs within $75 dollers of what the correct Colt cylinder costs.

If he can find one for $200 it's a bargin.

I believe RC is correct. $200 might be a deal after all! Whats $75 when sticking to a Colt cylinder for a Colt SAA. I have to admit that I too misunderstood the Uberti reference as to trying a Uberti cylinder. I see that I was mistaken and what RC said was perfectly clear. I think I will get that cylinder if i haven't waited to long.

To be clear, it is not my intention to fool anyone into think this Colt was unfired if I ever sold it.I just am having a hard time not firing the Colt as I don't have a firearm I don't shoot. Life is too short in IMHO to keep this Colt without shooting it, investment value aside. I should have bought a good used 1st gen Colt SAA instead.

You have a Colt with a perfectly good cylinder?

But you want to buy another cylinder to use to shoot it, so the original cylinder hasn't been shot??

I would not do that.

It will not harm the cylinder you have to shoot it, any more then it will hurt the rest of the gun where firing it wears the finish off the recoil shield, etc..

Shot is shot.
Either it is, or it isn't.

Shoot the darn thing and save the $200 for more ammo.

We could have straightened this all out from the get-go if you had just said why you wanted to buy a $200 2nd. Gen Colt cylinder in the first place!!
