one of mine has a longslide lyman 48 and two more have the later lyman 57's. eventually i'll replace the 57's with 48's.
the lyman 48 is the classic receiver sight for a 03, even better if its a longslide.

Thanks for the info.on the Lyman 48

Its definitely getting rebarreled. I need the practice and I want a slightly heavier contour on it.

I am pretty sure it'll be 6.5, .280, or .25-06. I need ti see if the school has a .280 reamer, and check on the condiction of the. 25-06 and 6.5 reamers. I know one of the .25 reamers was replaced this spring but I don't know if it was the roughing or finishing reamer.

It won't be in a military configuration but it'll definitely be tasteful. I'll hand polish it and hot blue it, and I may have my friend engrave the floorplate.

6.5x55 is a great all around caliber with low recoil.
i planned on rebarreling my last 03 to 9mm mauser but it shot to well to mess with, now i have to find another donor rifle for that build.

have you considered building it in the nra sporter style? great american gunstocks has the 1922 stock pattern, numrich or sarco has the barrel band and the standard 03 buttplates fit.

1903 in 308 norma magnum

My goal is to and up with a very pretty gun that is in the style of the older (proper) sporterized 1903's. Pretty wood, good sights, classic lines. Something I could hunt with but could just as easily target shoot with.

Mine came out o.k.
