Just got notified that my LaRue upper 18" 223/.556 has shipped. I have an Aero Precision lower that I'm using for a 6.5 Grendel and it works just fine. What lower would you guys recommend for this LaRue upper? Thanks.
Honestly, in terms of pure function, any lower will work just fine and in the current situation, I’d pick up the first one I could find. The upper and the parts you put into the lower matter a heck of a lot more than the name on the side of your lower. That said, I’d eventually want a LaRue lower just so everything matches.
I like Aero Precision parts. Quality has always been good for me. But I’m like marksman too, eventually I would like to have a matching LaRue billet lower just for matching sake.
However, I currently have three stripped Anderson’s in the safe, so that what parts would get put in.
Any are fine. Do you want a built it trigger guard? Flared mag well? Funny roll marks?
They're all functionally similar. I just buy a bunch of whatever is on sale. I've got some Andersons I bought at like $25 each awhile ago. No issues with any of them.
I would place an order for a larue billet lower. $200, which happens to be their pre-pandemic price. With Andersons going for close to $100, it’s an awesome value. Shipping time is typically much shorter than the upper. And if you ever decide to sell it, it’ll more than pay for itself since it would be an all-Larue build (the UU kit gives you a larue-branded receiver extension, grip and stock, as well as the not-visibly-branded but distinctly larue trigger).
The lower is the least important part of the AR. As long as it has been properly machined so that everything fits in it, and all the guts are correctly installed, it doesn't matter.
Finally finished putting this LaRue 223/556 together. I have a scope on another rifle that I will use on this one. Anxious to take it out and shoot it.
