I have recently come into possession of about 500 pieces of once fired .45acp brass, dies, etc, but don't have a firearm that shoots .45.

I'd like some recommendations for a good weapon for carry. I like and own a couple of Glocks (19 and 26) that I also handload for. I've read the Glock KB info and don't know if I want to go down that road with handloaded ammo in a .45 Glock. Maybe I'm naive but I don't really worry too much about handloading for the 9mm glocks, plus I don't load anywhere near the max. .45 is a different story.....or is it?

I don't really have a passion for a 1911 platform right now but I wouldn't rule it out.

Any suggestions?

I like handloding for my USP .45, it shoots everything I brew real well. Thinking of adding the HK45.

Spending $800+ on a gun so he can reload some found brass, makes little sense to me, but then I never need a reason to buy another gun :)

Under $500, I'd recommend the RIA Tactical or the Witness Elite Match. If you are young and can see the GI sights the RIA standard for under $400 is a good first 1911 so you are not out a lot should you decide you don't like the platform.

If you want a plastic gun, look at the S&W M&P or the Springfield XD, you can usually get these under $500 too if you shop carefully. S&W has a $50 rebate and two free magazine offer still going making it an economical choice.

The .45ACP is relatively low pressure round and very easy to reload for. Glocks and reloads don't mix unless you are willing to buy an aftermarket barrel.

CZ97 is a good gun, but mine is not reliable with my lead SWC reloads and its too big to fit me well (like the Glock 21). Its fine with lead RN reloads though.

CZ97 looks nice for a non-1911.

BUT, a 45 ACP cries out for a 1911. SA Mil-spec is a great starter.

Colt is always the right answer.

A Glock 21 is a nice pistol if it fits you hand. I have owned two and liked them, not enough to keep in the long run, but still nice. If I did not have a 1911 monkey on my back I would have stayed the course with Glock.
I have never heard of a 21 going kaboom...but then I have not seen bigfoot either, just lots of talk and grainy photo's.

Taurus PT1911 I have will digest any handloads I have been able to feed it thus far. Shoots them pretty accurately, too. My son has a Witness .45acp and its a nice weapon too.

I have to agree on the PT1911 if you decide to go the 1911 route. I have been very, very happy with mine.

The other .45 I own is a Ruger P90, and it is fan-freaking-tastic. Some consider it clunky, and I guess it is to an extent, but it is accurate and as reliable as you will ever find in an auto. Plus, it is tough enough to stand up to some pretty hot loads should you choose to experiment with +p at some point.
