Thought I'd ask you guys what you might recommend for a good double-stack style .45. Something with about 10+ capacity or so. Compact or full size really doesn't matter to me, something with a fairly reasonable size and weight for potential CCW would be great.

I already have a regular single stack 1911 so I'm looking for something a bit different just cause I love .45s. From what I've looked around at so far I'm liking the M&P .45 and XD .45 mainly, but like to hear some other peoples' thoughts and suggestions. Thanks for your input!

PS--I don't really have any kind of brand preference or loyalty but no Glocks please. Nothing personal they just don't fit me at all.

Para-Ordnance P14 is a 1911 pistol with a double stack mag. and holds 14 rounds of 45 acp. The P13 is a commander legnth pistol that holds 13 rounds. I own both and highly recomend them. You can get steel frames or alloy frames. Good pistols at reasonable prices last time I checked.

warthog? Para makes it, 10+1 IIRC, 3" bbl. Great CCW from what I've heard. There aren't many double stack 45 polymers out there. I'd go with a 1911 style gun. Para makes a lot of CCW configurations, many are double stack too.

Another Phantom??? Whoa.......

Hahah, anyways, XD45 or think about a Sig 220 although its not a double stack.

XD Custome 45

XD I have 45's.
Springfield Micro-Compact
Para LDA
Springfield Champion
XD 4" service model

I love the trigger on the Para LDA, but I love the XD for it's trigger and high count magazines. XD is just as accurate as all of the above and cost less. My pick would be for the XD

i agree with PCRit, the XD Compact is both fairly small and has a fairly large magazine, so i would get that, it is also nice to shoot, it won the 2006 pistol pf the year so it has to be good

Yeah I've seen those Para Warthogs (and similar micro 1911s) they are pretty sweet. Seem to recall they were rather pricey though. I've heard very good things about the XD .45 that is a definite contender. I don't think I've ever shot a non-1911 .45 except for my friends Taurus PT145 which is a pretty nifty little compact .45 for carrying purposes. Might have to see what rentals the local range has and see if I can shoot some of these. Thanks for the tips!

Definitely shoot a XD 45 before you buy it. My brother had one for a few months and I hated shooting it. I hated the grip, trigger, recoil, flip, looks, almost everything about it. That's just me though. YMMV. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it after my hands started shaking (after about 3 rounds). I wasn't much of a 45 shooter at the time which may have been part of my problem.

The 1911's WILL cost more than a polymer gun period. Unless of course you get a smoking deal on a used one. Also the 3" 1911's are more finicky about everything than the longer barreled ones are. More changing recoil springs, more picky about ammo etc. I heard nothing but good stuff about the feel of the LDA trigger.

If it was a poll, I would vote for the XD45 compact. you get 10+1 and 13+1 Mine carrys great.

I'm very fond of my XD45acp. Fits well, trigger's fine, I like the capacity and how comfy & controllable it is. If I have a problem with it at some point, you folks will be the second to know...

xd 45 compact 10+1 doesnt print much when used for concealed carry
glock 30 its inda bulky with the grip though 10+1 reliable
kimber bp 10, 10+1 holds like a brick though

YOUR CHOICE THERE ALL 45 SO PRETTY MUCH YOUR GOOD WITH EITHER

So far I've owned .45's in 1911 style, XD, Glock, Taurus (24/7 and Mil Pro) and so far the XD-45 (4") is the best of all (except the 1911 series) for double stacks.

I've been shooting and carrying mine for the last 7 months and it hasn't failed yet. Well worth the $475 I've paid for it.

HK all the way

My USP45 has almost 10k rounds down the pipe with only one failure. The 1 failure was due to a bad batch of Wolf. The case split and wedged it's self in the barrel. While not idea carry pieces, I did carry one for a while, mainly in the winter, without ever being "made". If you measure, they are not any bigger than the Glocks, XD's, or MP's.

The Para P14 and P13 are nice guns. They shoot very well, and while some folks have had issues with them, my bare bones P14 ran like a top. They are heavy though, and with a full mag, can weigh a lot.

You may want to also check out Wilson Combat's KZ series. They are double stack polymer framed 1911's and I have heard good things about. They are no where near as expensive as their all steel 1911's.

Wilson Combat KZ-45. If you know and trust M1911 form factor, then this is a good gun.

I've put mine thru as many as 2800 rounds in 4 days straight shooting and 1000 rounds without cleaning and no hiccups. Must be 10K+ rounds at least now (I have to check my logs).

Negatives: 1. polymer frame, 2. big grip (but you want a doublestack).

Positives: It's a m1911, it's a Wilson, it's guaranteed 1" @ 25yards, best designed 10-rd magazine that decreases doublestack mag problems.

Sig 220 if you want to go single stack.

XD45 4" service if you want to go double stack.

Kahr P45 if you want the best carry .45 money can buy. That's just my opinion, but get ahold of one and you'll find that it is everything a concealable .45 ACP should be. Super light, thin, small, and a real shooter for a .45 in a little package.

Sig

...

I love my Sig P220R standard 45. As mentioned, single stack, 8 mag, one chambered for 9 count.

No recoil issues, period, even with rapid firing IMO..

Accurate as ever.. out of the box, and SOOOOO simple to disassemble and clean. Just a snap, and it's done.

But I'm waiting with baited breath for the new Sig 1911 Revolution Nitro Carry 45, single mag of 8, to be Calif.-approved, as they start shipping this month.

Just a beauty, I must have one.

LS ;)

STI Tac 4.15 less magwell or Eagle with fixed or TAS option.

I can't abide those mag funnels in a carry gun - I wish they'd picture the duty 2011s without that thing. Of course I also wish they'd bring back the VIP :cuss:

I have a PO P-14 as well as a P-16 in .40. I really like them for hi-cap guns. Accurate, reliable, tough, same 1911 drill as far as controls.

I have also shot the XD hi-cap .45 and liked it ok, not great. I'm just not into the plastic guns, but for use as a 'tool', they are fine.

The PO's make great range guns and I understand a lot of gun gamers use them. Don't let anybody tell you that they are too big or too heavy to carry concealed either.

Give them a look and good luck.

Either XD .45 or M&P .45, if you don't care for double stack 1911s. The HK is a great gun, but not as easily or comfortably carried concealed (for me anyway) and has more recoil than either of the two I mentioned before. And hope like hell you don't need service 'cause HK can't come close to S&W and SA in the service dept.
