Recommendations on a new handgun, please.

Congratulations on your purchase. I was all set to suggest a M&P 2.0 in whatever size suited you. Nothing wrong with Glock though. We all have our preferences.

G21 is a nice gun and 45 ACP is a dream to handload. YouTube videos should give you most of the instructions needed to handload ammo and check out the reloading forum here.

Yep, I was thinking Glock. Several years ago, I lost my job. I was too proud to go to my family for a loan to get my car fixed, so I sold my Glock and a nice 6906. I regret it, sort of, but I am proud that I worked really hard to scratch my way back to the middle again. I had a Glock 21, but was thinking of a Glock in .40 S&W.

Factory refurb Sig p22x in .40 S&W. I bought two 15 years ago and they're still ticking. Best triggers I have.

Recently (3 mos ago) they were going for $450 - $650 however they are now nowhere to be had

You love 1911s and are new to guns.

You need mags, tons of ammo, and training if you are willing.

I say Springfield defender 1911 (a milspec re-branded). Good sights, feed any hollow point.

You will spend 500 or so on the 1911 and can spend the rest on mags ammo holster and training. You also want to set back some ammo for a rainy day.

Nice thing is if you only have 45 ball (fmj) ammo, it's much more suitable than 9mm fmj or 38/380 etc fmj for self defense.
