I have a Mini-G in .308 that I have had for a few years and I have to say it is probably my favorite rifle of all time. When I had it built, I had him put the Ultimak scout rail on it because I am terribly nearsighted and past middle age. The time has come for me to try a red dot on this rifle. What suggestions do you have for a red dot for something like this. I do not want a scope, I would prefer some sort of an optic such as a red dot, preferrably a closed emitter.

That, sir, depends on your preferred budget and application!

I think the "best," probably an Aimpoint micro.

You could pay a lot less for sure, butI don't think you'll find a better optic. Rugged as they come, small footprint as to minimally disrupt the lines of your classic rifle.

Aimpoint H1/H2 on the lowest mount possible IMO.
Or if you don’t mind losing your rear sight you can try this if they’re still in business. Mine worked great but I needed the sight for another gun so I took it off and sold the mount.

I've had my eye on an ultimak rail for my Garand for years, but always spend the money on something else. They show an Aimpoint Micro T1 that they say is a cowitness setup so you can use the irons as well. I always thought that would be a nice way to go.
