thinking of putting one of these on my new mini 14 tactical for hog hunting, any thought on these, know they are Leupold made now or should I stick with open sights or a red dot (I already have tried an Ultradot on it) my shots will be in the 100 -200 yard range. too many hogs, so little time.

Sounds like the plan to me!

I think the scope would definately be a big help in early morning / late evening low light / deep shadows over iron's or a red dot.

You can't shoot what you can't see.

Exactly what I plan to mount on my Mini-14 Tactical as well. I was absolutely astonished at the clarity of the Redfield Revolution 2-7 that I played with at my local gun store - it was clear and bright looking out the front of the building and across a highway as well as in the darker recesses of the store. For $130 I can't see a better option .....

I have one on both my T/C Omega, and my Mossberg 695 slug gun. I love them both. I was very surprised with their clarity, and they come with a life time warranty. These two guns are my primary woods "rifles", and I hunt alot from different elevated stands. If I were to drop them, and damage them, I can just send them back.

I just bought one yesterday and mounted it on my Remington 600. The scope looks great and it is extremely clear. I can't wait to try it out.

It's interesting to see the huge contrast between the american and european perspectives on scopes for hunting. Where I come from any thread about using a medium magnification - small objective scope for poor light conditions hunting would soon be filled with posts suggesting that:

- in order get the best vision through your scope you need to have a larger diameter objective lens. 40mm is considered an allround-size lens, usually the scopes for this purpose are 45-56mm.

- You use the light that your scope manages to gather with a magnification roughly 1/7 of the size of the objective lens. This might sound weird and I'm no expert so if you doubt me I refer to google. The point is that your pupil will largen to about 7mm diameter at most.

33mm/7mm= roughly 4.7.

I am currently searching for an optic with the following specs: 1.5-6x42mm. 42mm/7mm=6. This means that I'm not carrying around more zoom than I can use as far as seeing goes, while being able to turn down the magnification to almost reflex sight power for short range shooting. Yes, the Redfield scope will be a huge improvement over iron sights, but I would try to find a scope with a larger objective lens if low-light shooting is what you're buying the scope for.

Edit: I held and looked through this model just a week ago or so and in bright sunlight it felt great. It's rather lightweight so it won't turn your rifle into an anchor. For nice weather hunting I'm sure it's great but optically it's got nothing on a nice Zeiss scope...
