Just finished. This is my dad's Mossberg 500, it was originally a 22"? but I hack sawed it down to [strike]16 1/2.[/strike] 18 1/2 inches I've also put some repair work into it because it was badly pitted, rusted and beaten up "the things' like 18 years old...". The metal wasn't too bad after it got blasted with some alox "where needed". I had to do a little jb-weld pit/scratch filling but other than that it went smooth. ALL the internal pins and screws needed replacing. So I changed that all out with stainless parts.

The buttstock was broke along the top of the pistol grip about 3' inches long.... I had to Epoxy it back together with screwpins and dowels. Afterwards I went over the rest of the stock problems with bondo and filler.

The fore-grip "pump grip" had small serrated teeth inlets "factory done", but most of them were broken or chipped away. So I took the dremel and played around a bit. Afterwards had to bondo and fill.

The paint is duracoat with some of my own custom colors and style. You'll notice a hint of gold and silver metal flake in there. The camo actually changes the color slightly under different lighting. The metal is all painted Matte Black and on the wood the base coat is matte black with some silver mixed in. Topped with my Shadowflage "Twilight gray/green" with a little Gold dusted on top of that followed by a few coats of Satin Clear. The camo works pretty good.

I have pics below, along with the album link which has a lot more pictures than I have listed here.

Any positive comments are welcome , and the negatives not so much :) .

Obviously he does, that's too long to be 16".

Yeah, I was aware of that ;). 16" on a Moss500 puts you just past the barrel lug.

It was just the first thing I noticed since the post text opened before the pictures finished opening. I was reading and I was like "Dear God NO!!!, tell me you didn't just make an illegal SBS and announce it on the internet" ;)

I've seen people admit to doing all sorts of illegal things(felonies included). One poster(another forum) recently drove across state lines to sell a pistol to an individual. Said individual continually asked the seller if he was a cop, among other things that should have given the seller a clue....then paid the seller with photocopied "money" that only had an image on ONE SIDE! The seller didn't realize it until the guy was gone. I suspect both parties will end up with charges(assuming they find the buyer). I LOL.

yessum it's 18 1/2, damn AR-15's have me brainwashed with the number 16... and 14.5.. you can clearly see as noted from a few others above 16 would be to the shell tube. it's 18 1/2

Reading the text with all the mention of Dremels, hacksaws and Bondo, I was expecting a monstrosity.
Looked at the pics, and that there is a well done job. I really do like it. :)

Southern Man's Precision tools ^_^. actually if you use a pipe cutter "the kind you use on copper pipe" and run it around the barrel a few times with heavy tension on the adjusting screw you make a nice indent all the way around. then when you saw the rest of the way through you have a nice beveled edge.

the trigger gaurd being plastic had alot of mold seems so I had to sand those off and contour it a little so it would look likepainted metal.

I'm about to stick a few pictures of a rossi pump .22 I'm working on "in another thread". which has SERIOUS rust and pits... it was in a carry case in a house flooded by katrina... lol it's my uncles gun and is a family gun passed down kinda thing so he wants it fixed.

What kind of sights are you going to install?

it never had sights on it. the original bead sight on the 22" broke off years ago. since it's a besides the bed and walkin' gun you don't need much aiming up close with buckshot :)

You and your gun came out all right.

It appears that your father put more effort into raising you than he put into taking care of his gun.

All things considered that's a good thing.

Jeff
