I picked up a MAADI MISR a few weeks ago. Any one who has ever seen one know that the painted reciever leaves a lot to be desired. I stripped it and refinished it using Brownell's Aluma-hyde II in dark gray parkerizing. Also added a AK-74 style muzzle brake. Follow the link to see pics.

I'd like to know how that Alumahyde holds up under use. I've used it on synthetic and fiberglass furniture, but never on the metal metal. My SAR1 could sure use a nice fresh finish if it's durable though.

I think it's going to be pretty tough. I had to remove the muzzle brake. It was a pin on style and was not sitting straight, and I was affraid that the round might make contact with it. When I removed the brake there were some marks from it. I hit the end of the rifle with a stainless brush to rough it up so I could re-apply the Aluma-hyde to the front end. The stainless brush wasn't removing any of the Aluma-hyde. I think it's going to last.

Looks great!

If you put a US FCG in it from somewhere like Redstar Arms, or Gordon Technologies, and a US made gas-piston, you could put a regular pistol grip on it instead of that fiberforce stock.

K-Var and others have black polymer AK furniture that's US made so it counts twoards the parts count. It also has an extra 1" LOP so it's more suited to a Western build (i.e. "well fed") user.
