I have a Romanian Kalashnikov that has a canted front sight. The front sight is off to the left by approximately 5 degrees or so. I'm to the point where I can shoot it with a decent degree of accuracy at 100 yards as long as I remember to keep the front post a tad bit down and to the left in the front channel. If I do this, I can get groups at 100 yards on the order of 8 inches or so.

Although I can shoot it with reasonable accuracy, I find it annoying that I have to position the sights in a "unnatural" way to do this. I would like to adjust the front sight to give the rifle a more instinctive "point and shoot" feel. After analyzing things a bit, I've found that even if I were to push the front post all the way to the right, it would still be off by a little.

I've read the tutorial on the Net about how to fix the cant, but the pins seem to be in pretty good, and I don't want to buy any special tools to do the job.

My question is, does anyone know if a typical rifle smith will fix this? If so, about how much will it cost me?

Thanks. :)

Check out this sight:http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/cant.htm. There are instructions to reset your front sight. I did my wasr's sight and gas block. The front sight is easy, I removed the pins and moved it with a pipe wrench, using an old leather belt for padding, no heat needed. The gas block was more difficult but it's do-able. It's just no fun trying to hold off your target to make bullets land where you want.

An easy fix would be get an adjustable rear sight. That way you could center your front sight and adjust the rear sight over to one side, which would be slightly less annoying.

An adjustable RPK sight would work.

I've tried hammering out the pins but they are in there too tight. They aren't welded or anything just in too tight. Any suggestions?

Some years back I had a a Maadi with a badly canted front sight. I removed it entirely and installed an ACE Ltd. gas block sight. The groove left in the barrel from the original front sight was useable for mounting a pin-on muzzle brake with a little futzing.

I'd suggest taking the rifle to a real gunsmith.

Canted sight supports are something a gunsmith can fix in short order, and he has the tooling necessary to do the job.

ya must have a SOLID backing block, brass works good, anything that has even the slightest give to it will defeat ya, start with a short punch tip to get em started and remember the front pin is retaining the spring for the muzzle brake lock pin and the pin itself they will launch to parts unknown if not secured before that pin comes out, DO NOT use any wood blocks or other padding under the sight block ya will never get the pins out, brass will smear on the finish but it wipes right off with Hopps or other copper cleaning bore solvents etc..
