Anyone know where to get cheap regular old .38 special wadcutters? My google-fu is failing me. Ideally I would like the modern equivalent of these old Peters .38 wadcutters I have about 1/2 a box left of. They are great practice ammo.

Alternatively.. anyone know of a make/model of semi-wadcutters that are not smoky and nasty?

Commercial reloader near me makes some decent 38Spl wadcutters...I have shot a bunch in the past, but haven't bought any in the last year.

National Bullet Company

Sometimes, those plain old lead wadcutters are just loaded up with bullet lube, like a lot of the "Cowboy Action" loads. Some of the Cowboy loads I have tried were only slightly less smoky than blasting away with my "Navy Colt" Black Powder revovler.

I have a good supply of Winchester Match wadcutters I got from J&G Sales but I believe they are now out. They were under $10 a box. I have had good results with Sellier & Bellot 148 wadcutters if they are available for you.
They are even slower than the winchester but for me have been very accurate, even better than the Winchester. Around here they go from 10-12 dollars a box. Lately, more like 12.

I just ordered a 100 pack of the Georgia Arms wadcutters to try. Shipping was 4$ less than the bullets. If I like those I'll go for a 1000 pack or two.

Thanks everyone!

Incidentally.. they have .41 wadcutters. I did not know there was such a thing, I'll have to give those a try as well.

Ain't no such thing anymore

Anyone know where to get cheap regular old .38 special wadcutters?

Cheap is a relative term - particularly when you are buying over the net. You have to factor in shipping costs. ROZE Distributors http://rozedist.com sells ammo (factory new and reloads) using the ZERO bullet and they have free shipping if you buy over 500 rounds at a time. They sell a 148gr HBWC reload for $11.95 /box of 50 which, if you factor in free shipping, is about as cheap as you will find on the web.

I bought a bunch of Seller and Bellot wadcutters a few months back, they were 6.95 a box from Cheaper than Dirt. Not sure the prices right now but they generally run cheap, they shoot well also. Bill

Just checked the Sportsmans Guide website, they have the S&B for 11.77/50. Man, prices are getting a little crazy out there. Bill

I have gone through 4,000 rounds of Mastercast reloads. www.mastercast.net. Their prices are right, they have an excellent selection, and they are prompt. Typically, when I mail them my empty brass, I have the reloads within ten days. I shoot mostly their .38sp 158gr SWCs, but I have been trying out their 100gr WCs and find them a very pleasant load in my S&W 637. You will find the prices very attractive. Also, if you choose to send them your brass, send it Postal Service Priority Mail. Costs me eight bucks a shipment, whereas any other way I know of costs over twenty dollars. I still haven't figured this one out.

Also, avoid National Bullet Company. They used to be reliable, but they seem to have lost it in the last year or so.

National Bullet Company is liars and thieves! Don't use them for anything. They owe me $300 in ammunition that was due 2 years ago and they have continued to ignore me ever since.

How they are still in business I'll never know, but please, don't do anything to help them profit. Their low prices are a result of taking people's money without goods or services in exchange. Thieves, plain and simple.

Georgia Arms

+1 for Georgia Arms.

1000 148gr LWC - $158 + $17 to ship to Ohio is the best deal I can find. Once I accumulate enough brass, I'll give Mastercast a shot.

They're a bit smokey, but better than their 158gr LSWCHP+P which are nearly black powder smokey, but a good round despite.

1000 rounds barely gets me through a month anymore, probably time to start reloading....

Transalpian: If you go through a thousand rounds that fast, you certainly should start reloading your brass. Unless you earned a bundle before Trump fired you.

Another warning about National Bullet Company. They owe me bullets and money from 1year ago. Please beware. I don't like to knock anyone, but their bad.

I need to jump on the mastercast.net bullets. I use the 148 DEWC and the 158 SWC. Both are nice bullets, don't lead up to bad and the DEWCs are sweat shooting in all of my .38s & .357s.

I also use John's bullets. They are down by Ft Lauderdale. A guy I worked with made a trip down there about every other month. He had family down there and would always stop by John's. I use them in the .44 and .45 colt varieties mostly, but have used a few thousand in 158 grain .38s. John's have always performed very well for me.

ETA: I don't think John's is in business anymore. His web site link is toast. Does anyone know if they still exist? Either my Google foo is weak, or he is gone. I only have a couple thousand left of his bullets. Ken no longer works for us (he's the guy who made the trips) and I've not been shooting as much as I used to.
