I picked this RIA up for quite a few bucks under $500

Well if you really do some research you will find that the Stoeger/Beretta Cougar 8045 is one of the best values on the market today. It's made in the Beretta factory which was moved to Turkey.

I don't know of another brand that gives you a $700 handgun for $419 NIB. It also seems to still be quite a well kept secret since no one has recommended it yet.

You will be hard pressed to find a negative OWNER review, what you will find is that 99% of people that actually own a Cougar feel the same way I do.

If you do your research & you like the way it fits your hand it will be the smartest $400 you have ever spent on a handgun.

Taurus 24/7 OSS DS 45. 12+1 rounds 5.25" match bbl. SA/DA striker fired de-cock. $345.00-$355.00 depending on finish at Budsguns when they can keep them in stock. I havea Sig, Ruger, Glock and another Taurus all in .45ACP. The OSS is the most comfortable and fun to shoot.

Here's another vote for the XD 45 Tactical or service. If it feels good to you it's a good option, soft shooter and right around the $500 mark. I am duly impressed and I'm not really a huge fan of polymer/striker pistols.

Love my Taurus pt1911.....SS was 650, but the blued is closer to 600. Shoots very straight (as far as I can tell)

They are no more synonymous than RELIABLE and EXPENSIVE or INEXPENSIVE and UNRELIABLE.

Good guns can be found for good prices. I know, people on here will argue that if you do not spend $1700 on a 1911 you will not get a reliable gun but they would be wrong.

I've never shot a Ruger semi but I have heard that they aren't all that great from a few people.

IMO, those people are wrong: especially in regards to the P90 that several members have recommended.

It has a little fatter grip, but holds more ammo. I saw a used one for $450 the other day.

I have 1911s by Rock Island. Kimber, and Colt. The Kimber is the nicest of the three, but the Rock Island is a very close second. For an entry level gun I think the RI is hard to beat.

I have owned (at last count) 22 1911s in the last 25 years.
So far, in my experience, "cheap" and "reliable" do not intersect.

However, I have bought several reasonably priced ($575-750) Kimbers that have been 100% reliable. These are the the 1911s I carry.

I also own several of the "higher priced spread"...and despite the fact that they are "somewhat troublesome", I am continuing to work with a few of them (and have given up on others).

Note that I do not carry them...

American Classic Deluxe or the American Classic Commander Either should be less than 500 and good reliable 1911

A suggestion

Metro arms has a line called American Classic, They are right at $350. I have recieved one as a gift recently and was amazed at the accuracy and smoothness of the gun. I own Kimber springfield and Colt as well. I would compare the gun right up there with these guns as far as operation and dependability. But the good part is as far as price, It's on top of the list.
Check them out there are alot of reviews in print and on youtube. Hope this helps.

I've had 3 Ruger centerfires. I regret selling two of them. One was a P90. That gun shot with a couple tuned 1911's I had. It indexed well and was 100% reliable no matter any ammo I fed it. A set of Hogue grips made it very shootable and stable in
the hand. I plan on buying another.

I just bought my first Glock, a Glock 21 sf and it runs quite nicely straight from the box. Accuracy is very good and the trigger is acceptable and comparable to my XD's. A little more than $500 but worth the extra few bucks.

I've owned a Tanfoglio Witness .45 for a few years and did not have any problems. Not ammo picky, fired everytime I pulled the trigger. I got it with a compensator for $300. Also it was very accurate. Unfortunately I recently sold it to a friend for $400 and bought a Sig P2022 9mm(which I've fallen in love with). Do your research and look for deals. Thats the way I buy my firearms and I have not bought a lemon or gun I am disappointed with.

Smith and Wesson M&P45, best bunch of .45 auto I've ever shot, and picked mine up for $519.

I almost went with the Glock 21, but it felt way to thick and awkward in my hand. The M&P fits like a glove. This is coming from a guy that loves his glocks as well.

Taurus or Hi-Point

I have the Taurus 24/7 Pro DS- got it two weeks ago for 349.00
Also have a Hi-Point 45. Cost $179.00 It's ugly, kinda heavy, but when you pull the trigger a bullet comes out the correct end. Shoots pretty well.
