i'm not big on the idea of 30 rd magazines. my experience with them in the army was negative, and it seems to me that 20 rds is not only an ideal number for precise single shot firing, but that full 30 rd magazines present too many feeding problems. i know that many of the after-market 30 rd mags for mini 14s have bad reputations, but what about the 20 rd magazines? are most reliable, and are there any companies to avoid? i saw some 20 rd mags online for cheap. they are manufactured by a company called 'western'. anything i should know about this company?

If you do a search, this question has been asked and answered numerous times. In short, look for mags manufactured by PMI. You only hear good things about those mags. I have several, and they're all 100% high quality mags. All other companies are hit-and-miss.

Western are usually junkers. PMI, Promag 20s, Promag 20 Polymer, and factory Ruger are the way to go.
