Do you reload or buy for those?

.40 S&W

6mmBR

Neither gun has ever seen a factory round. Of course, only two companies make factory rounds for 6mm, Lapua and Norma. I've never seen it in person, only online.

So I had dies in hand not long after buying the rifle. Bought Lapua brass, and some Berger bullets, and away I went.

The .40 happened by accident. I had the pistol, and a friend gave me some brass he had, so I bought some bullets. As it turns out I never did buy any factory brass for that gun.

None technically. I've only bought 1 box of 380 just to use as a comparison on the chronograph. everything else that I currently reload for I had before I was reloading so I had purchased quite a few factory loaded rounds. None lately though!

357 Herret... They don't make factory ammo. Thinking about buying a mouser in 8mm-06, another one you have to load for. I like making odd stuff like that

.41 Magnum.

I bought one box of .45 Colts when I first got the gun (intending to keep the brass), and quickly realized the commercial ammo was loaded down so far it's embarrassing. I haven't bought another box.

I haven't bought any .38 S&W, but I've reloaded so little of that one it doesn't count yet. :)

I always break in a new gun with factory ammo. I'd like to be sure the gun functions like it is supposed to without worrying about voiding the warranty by using reloads. I'll also run a variety of brands and bullet types through it while breaking it in. Long guns I'll sight in with factory loads, then adjust when I switch to reloads.

Pistols - the first 300+ rounds will be factory.

Rifles - the first 100+ rounds will be factory.

After that, I usually only shoot reloads. I don't reload shotgun shells (I really don't shoot that much of it to make it worthwhile), so those are all factory.

I just picked up a new .308. I have 100 rounds of different factory ammo to run through it, and 1000 pieces of brass waiting to be reloaded. Now I just need a nice day to go to the range.

What calibers have you reloaded but never had to buy factory loaded ammo for your arsenal?

223 Remington
243 Winchester
35 Remington
9 MM Luger
45 ACP
40 S&W
357 Mag
357 Sig
38 Spl

I only have one handgun that hasn't seen the horrors of factory ammo- 357/38spl. I bought an AR two months ago before prices went through the roof and availability to the gutter. I thought I was going to get my dies, bullets powder and primers in before i got that itchy trigger finger but I broke down a couple days after buying it and ran some dirty tulammo through it :(

Mdi:

I either currently reload those calibers , or have reloaded for them in the past.

All the calibers I listed were the ones I never bought factory ammo for.

I simply collected/purchased brass or formed the cases to reload for them.

I also forgot to add 6mm Ackley Improved to my list.

I bought a Ruger in 45 colt and a RCBS reloading kit in 1973. I have never bought 45 colt factory loads for it. I now reload for over 10 differant rounds. The only 44 mag rounds I ever bought were a couple of 20 round box's of "Super Vel".
