Have You Ever Bought A Gun Because you Can Reload 2 or more calibers for it?

I've seen this question posted from time to time.
I'm always fascinated by the responses because I'm guilty!

I bought a 44 Magnum thinking I'd reload 44 Mag & 44 Spl.
A .32 H&R Mag - .32 S&W Long
.357 Mag - .38 Spl

I haven't loaded .41 Spl ... yet ;)

The ability to reload has certainly expanded the range of older firearms I look at. Planning to pick up an early caliber one day like 32-20 or 38-40 just so I can load for it.

I bought a Steyr carbine in 6.5 x 54 MS only because I reload. I have never seen the ammo for sale anywhere. Ammo may be available but by reloading I was able to dial in a couple of rounds in 140 and 160 grain bullets. I have taken one deer with it. The rifle has that fluted twist to the barrel, deep blue and is a modern version of the old Mannlicher Shoenauer 1903 action. It is an indulgence because I can't imagine anyone wanting one so its not going to be sold.

No. But I did buy a 1911 in .45acp because I had a bucket of .45acp brass. The brass looked so empty and lonely. :) I couldn't reload it without something to shoot it in.

For me, it's not so much buying one because I can reload, but it's not being afraid to buy it - because I can reload.
The 2 or more cartridges out of one gun is an interesting mix. I am only in the 357/38 spcl camp. I've thought of 44 Mag/Spcl, but would probably shoot more Spcl out of it than Mags. I was handling a 44-40 SA the other day, and the only reason I would pick it up would be the reloading ability.
That's how I have both a 6.5 and 7.7 Jap Arisakas and others. An uncommon caliber doesn't keep me away.

HMMM Close Maybe..

I have a few 50 cal cans H&R Magnum rounds that are left over from this Hoard I took down last year in the link. Half have been taken down and the lead reclaimed. The brass needs to be resized but are primed and ready. Other half are in ammo boxes.

I am super tempted to get a 32H&R Magnum anything and start pulling and reloading them for it. Every revolver chambered in it is just too expensive for me now though. Even the cheapo H&R magnum 532's and the like creep up over $300 now and there is just tons other goodies I would rather buy.

I assume I'll just hold on to it all for the heck of it. One of these days though...

Arisaka, Nagant, 6.5 grendel, .458 socom, 6x47rem, 6.5 creedmoor.....
Not bought because I reload, but bought because I could reload. Cant get much in the way of ammo form any of them otc here.
A 9mm carbine, will be Because I reload

Got a good deal on a .41 Mag Blackhawk that I probably wouldn't have even considered if I didn't reload....so yes

My 1952 Winchester 1894, 1944 Enfield No IV MKI, a few Tokarevs, I have several 9x18 Mak pistols, the ammo used to be cheap, now it makes a lot more sense to reload 9x18 Mak. .30-30 and .303 British are both expensive calibers, even just the brass for .30-30 when you can find it at all, can be .85 to a dollar.

Yep. That's why I bought my 454. I was debating a 44 Magnum, but I like 45 Colt more that 44 SPL. That, and 454 has more breathing room at the top.

And of course I have the 357s too.

Not exactly but I did recently buy a Colt Government Series 70 MK II chambered in 38 Super. I bought one 50 round box of loaded ammunition for it, a spare magazine for it and 500 pieces of brass from Starline for it. I just have yet to load anything for it but have everything I need including dies. :)

Oh yeah. Bought a whole bunch of reloading stuff from a friend a few years back. Included in the mess, about 2000 rounds of 10mm. Now, can't sell it, can't give it away. The only "right" thing to do is to shoot it !!

So, bought a Colt Delta Elite .... followed with a Glock 20 ... And then everything needed to reload. I can rationalize almost anything ! :)

If I didn't reload, I wouldn't shoot 257 Roberts and I wouldn't use an 8mm Mauser as a hunting rifle. I'm also having a 6mm Rem built and that wouldn't be happening if I didn't reload.

I'm shooting up the last of the 100 rounds of store bought .358 Win I had squirreled away so I can start reloading the brass.

If I didn't reload I'd be rationing those rounds like they were gold

I picked up a sweet little rifle a while ago based on a Sako 461 action in 17-222. I think I got a good deal because of the niche market that would reload for it.

I'm putting together a Remington 700 in .458 SOCOM, that I intend to shoot suppressed with some heavier bullets. I wouldn't even think about paying the ~$4 or so factory rounds would cost me. I'm even considering taking up casting to feed this rifle a little more economically.

I think it will be very satisfying to shoot a rifle I built, with a suppressor I built, using ammo I loaded with bullets I cast myself.

Now if only I could make my own powder and primers....

Yep. Have a Garand and a bunch of 30-06 stuff. So, I got a Rem 700 in the same caliber. Use the same brasses, same charges of the same powder (4064), and the same projectiles (150 to 168 grain) for both rifles.

It all dovetails very nicely...

Nope, but I wouldn't buy something I couldn't reload for.
And .44 Mag and .44 Special are the same calibre. Different cartridges though.
Looks like the only way you can play with the .41 Special is to reload. Midway shows Jameson ammo(that appear to be the only game) at $14.99 per 20. Does appear there's lot of brass though.
Mind you, there's Reeds on OK. $31.00 per 50 for loaded WC's. http://shop.reedsammo.com/41-Special-205g-Wad-Cutter-41SPL205WC.htm

I don't think I would have bought my 7-mm-08 if I didn't load..I got into reloading because I got some of my Dads old guns after he passed.

I just got back from testing 13.0 gr A2400 with 210 gr LSWC for 41 Special. I recommend trying it. My loads are from a magazine article on .41 Special.

I should add that I never shoot cases that don't match what is stamped on the gun, so alternate cartridges in the same gun is not my thing, except for my 45 Colt convertible NM Blackhawk, which actually is stamped "45 Caliber", no foul.

Like Bang!, I got into reloading a particular cartridge, in my case 9mm, because someone gave me a bunch of once-fired brass. Of course, once I had loaded the brass, I had to know how it would perform.

Sort of. When I decided it was time for a single action I got my Blackhawk in 45 Colt. I probably would have gotten it in 357 if I did not reload, in fact I know I would have.
Also got a deal on a .243 that I probably would have passed on but I thought it would be neat to load for it.

I definitely shoot a lot more than I did before I started reloading.
