I was thinking of all the calibers I have not bought factory ammo for. How about you? I have only made my own for:
44 special
32 H&R mag
22 Hornet
6.5x55
7.5x55
300 AAC
45-70
303
Just curious, have a great day.

I've never shot a factory center fire round other than in the military. They seem disinclined to let me bring my own. :)
Really I've shot 22 and a few ppu 308 but almost nothing.

30 M1 Carbine
10 mm
44 Special
7.7 x 58mm Arisaka

I load for 13 calibers, I don't believe I have purchased factory for these 4.
I'm pretty sure I have bought factory blend for the others at some time in my shooting life.

I would like to add 460 Smith & Wesson Mag and 500 Smith & Wesson Mag to the list, but that means I would have to buy the firearms to shoot 'em with......
Hmmmmmmm......wait a minute.......that gives me an idea.......

That is how I got my 300AAC. I picked up a set of dies at a gun show. Then went through my scrap brass bucket and picked out all the 223 brass that was out of spec. Made some 300 brass then loads. I just had to build a rifle to try out my new loads.

I load for all my guns, the only factory new ammo I bought on purpose was for my .327 Fed Mag because there were cases available for .327 when I bought the gun.
I had to buy the factory loads to get the cases and that also was a mistake because most of them split anyways.
Unless I pay $35.00 for 20 rounds to get the good stuff, I was never happy with the quality of the most of the ammo that was available.

22-250,
30-30,
32-20 (bought a box initially to see if gun functioned before getting dies, etc. Gun had not been fired in 90 years.), 7.62x54R (bought couple boxes to see if I would keep gun that was given to me before buying dies, etc)
6mmRem - Have 2 boxes factory from 25 years ago to use as comparators for velocity.
30-06. And .308win

Man, that's a good question. I've been reloading for over 35 years, and shooting longer than that. There are many I shoot that I purchased a few factory rounds to obtain good brass.

The only cartridges (not calibers) that I know for certain I've never purchased new are :
44 Spl
360 Dan Wesson

The 360DW is not available factory loaded, as far as I know. I know I've never seen it.

The 44 Spl; well, by the time I stumbled into that cartridge I was reloading for everything else. And new was (is) very expensive. Even more so now.

50-140-550 Sharps. I have never seen factory ammo for this but I will admit to never having looked for any. I bought brass and quickly learned to anneal it before loading. I shoot it very little now and I have only replaced two cases. The first one that taught me to anneal and another that folded over while loading.

Although there are many rounds that I have only bought a few factory rounds for (6.5x47 Lapua, 6BR, 6PPC etc.) the only firearms that I own that I have never purchased factory ammo for is 7mm Baby Nambo and 8mm Nambo.

44 special is the only one I've never bought a box of ammo for.

44 magnum, I bought 2 boxes to start so I had mo and brass while I acquired the reloading supplies.

Other cartridges like 357 magnum, 45 acp, 38 special, it's been years.

.41, 32 H&R mag, 22 Hornet, 6.5x55, 7.5x55, 45-70, 303, 6.5.47, 10mm, 7.7 Jap, 32-20, 22-250, .327, 30x47, 6.5 CR, 30 M1 Carbine, 7.7 x 58mm Arisaka,

I guess I Reload a LOT of calibers…

This was determined by what I could Remember (I’m 71), and what I could see listed by others that I didn’t have or have a need for.

From 1969 to 2010 I may have purchased one box of handgunn ammo and no rifle ammo. In 2010 I bought a box of Remington 45 ACP (I had no brass). In 2017 I bought two boxes of 32 ACP ( had no dies or components). Most of the rest of my calibers are handloaded, 9 calibers and most of those are cast. One exception; I just got a new Taurus 905, 9mm revolver and out of curiosity and not much bullet availability I've purchased 4 boxes, premimum "SD" ammo, even though I have close to 800 rounds of assorted 9mm handloads (500+ JIC ammo)..

Most of the others I have purchased new at some point, or more accurately scrounged a deal at an auction, sale, or had them given to me by a fellow shooter who no longer had use for them. In some cases, I purchased new PRVI ammo in military metric calibers as the ammo was nearly the same price as reloading brass.

As far as centerfire rounds, the only one I can definitively say I have NEVER purchased any new ammo for is 6.5x50 Japanese.
Close to the top would be .280 Rem, but I have glommed onto a couple of dusty boxes for a deep discount to use as practice ammo and brass donor over the years.
In 30-06, if you do not count military M2 ball that I purchased many years ago to acquire a lifetime supply of brass and shoot M2 ball mandatory matches with, that one would qualify also. I have never purchased commercial 30-06 other than the HXP and LC surplus M2 ball.
Even the ubiquitous .38 Spl practice ammo I feed my rifle and revolvers has been purchased new in a pinch. Needed some extra ammo for a big shooting weekend once, and didn't pack enough with.

Conversely, there are 2 centerfire calibers that I do not, and most likely never will, reload for. 9x18Mak and 7.62x25 Tok. This is mostly due to the fact that the weapons that fire them eject the brass into the next county. Makes recovering any fired brass nigh impossible.

Have been reloading in some form since early 1965 or so. That said I presently reload north of 35 types of cartridges. Often when you buy a used firearm it will come with a box or two of ammo. Most times I had collected OF brass already and got dies immediately. Those boxes of factory are sitting in ammo cans waiting for "something".
Out of all those the round that I never had factory ammo for and only reloaded for would be 25-20 single shot for my Stevens 44 1/2. I have never even held a single factory round of the stuff. Oh and rimfire stuff too.
