I am loading for a M1A and using 150 gr bullets in commercial .308 cases. Is IMR 4227 a powder with an appropriate burn rate for this application (ie the gas system of the M1A)?

If so, I would appreciate any load data and experience with said loads. Thanks.

No.

IMR4227 is much too fast to load normal ammo for a cartridge in the 7.62NATO/.308 Winchester range; IMR4227 is better suited to smaller rounds like the .22 Hornet, .30 Carbine, etc.

For my M1A, I've found that IMR4064 gives best results, but the most recommended powder is IMR4895. Powders in this class - but no slower than IMR4320 - are best suited to the M1A.

Thanks guys. I've been using IMR 4895 and have good luck in both the M1A and my M1. I just had access to some 4227 and wondered. Guess I'll stick with "when it works, don't fix it!"
