Hello everyone, I am just starting out with reloading.. I bought me a dillon 550 and I got a die set for 9mm I need to buy powder and primers and bullets from somewhere Im currious as to wich brand of powder is the cleanest/best and where I could find the supplies i need around here locally...

10 Ring on the NW side of town has a good selection, also Carters Country usually has a decent selection. Those are for everyday reloading and hunting. If you are looking for specialist bullets (ie 107 gr. SMK 6mm) then I usually mailorder.

Everyone like different powders, the ones I use the most are Hodgdon and the Reloader series. But it depends on what cartridges, bullet weights etc.

Carter's Country is the best I've found, assuming you know what you want. Haven't had the best customer service in Pasadena or the I-10 store.
I recommend Unique for a decent all around powder, shoots good 9mm loads for me. But everyone has their own preference.
Once you know what works for you find a good online retailer and find someone to split the hazmat fee with you.

I can't help with where to buy, but so far as powders are ocncerned, I've been loading with HS6 and Longshot for many years. Both perform very well and are easy to develope loads with.

I don't know how well longshot will meter for you, but HS6 should meter really well.

Houston is crazy big but just found 10ring on the northwest side and they are great. They have presses out where you can play with then and just about every part you can imagine for them. They definitely cater to reloaders so I have no problem supporting them. They have plenty of supplies for a pretty decent price. I will be back there for sure. Oh and I cant remember the lady's name but it was cool talking reloading to a lady. I know my wife only cares about blasting my ammo, not reloading it. :)

Carters Country on I10 was ok but it just popular supplies and not much in the way of reloading stuff. Couple powder measures and shotgun reloaders.

That would be Kim. Yes she knows her stuff. The entire staff is knowlegable and helpful, and prices are great too.

+1 on Carters. Their prices aren't anything to brag on, but it's in stock. Lately they've had 3-5 primer choices in pistol sizes (Fed, Win, CCI, Rem, Fiocci, and ?). Powders generally are stocked.

The north store has a bit more of support in reloading, but overall I prefer the staff at Pasadena.

Q

Where is 10 ring located? I understand NW side but would like closer directions. Get to Houston once in a while and I would like to go by the store.

10 ring, Carters and Bass pro (if it is on sale) gets my local support.

If you are a member of ASC you can get ok prices on powder and primers out there also. I occasionally will grab powder there when I think of it or if I am running low.

I usually order online and in bulk to save in cost, but on rare occasions do buy locally. If you're on the south side of town, Bass Pro has expanded their selection quite a bit, but is still quite expensive. My preferred shop is Bailey's House of Guns. I don't care for their range much, but their shop has a good selection and decent prices.

Unique or HP-38/w231, use Powder Valley or Grafs for powder, primers and bullets. Buy lots, you'll need em. No tax, but watch the hazmat charges. If you shoot much, 1K primers and a # of powder goes fast. Bullets is still the biggest cost. I'd try for a T/C or SWC plated or cast(slug your BBl to get size right), heavier than the standard 115 gr. You didn't state your gun.

Both 10ring and Carter's carry Friendswood cast bullets. I have had outstanding results with them.

With Bullseye and Unique you've got most handgun calibers covered quite nicely.
