Hey guys,

So for my little reloading club meetings, we try to play some reloading trivia to bring some fun for new and old members alike. We give prizes and it's a good time.

But I need your guys help to come up with some more questions.

I need easy, medium, and difficult questions. So please post a question and the answer for me (so we all can learn in case we didn't know the answer)

Thanks for the help.

Here is one -- For boxer primed 7.62 x39 brass -- does it use a small or a large rifle primer?

Answer -- YES
Some uses small , some use large.

The same question can be asked of 6.8 Remington brass, with the same answer.

A fun one -- what is flaming dirt?
Answer - the older formulation of Unique

Why does Remington continue to make and sell #6 1/2 rifle primers? Could they make the small print any smaller --
A: Someone keeps buying them unknowingly -- so they still sell a bunch of them.

Name 2 cartridges using insect names, 22 Hornet 218 Bee 219 Donaldson Wasp and others.

What's the oldest mass produced cartridge, that's still in use today , 22 Short rim fire.

Why is Winchester 22 rimfire ammo head stamped H , by Oliver Winchesters honor of Tyler Henry ,the father of the Winchester- Henry lever action rifle.

Can I reload 5.56 brass with my 223 Rem dies?
Yes

Should you lube cases used in Dillon 223 Remington carbide sizing dies?
Yes -- according to Dillon

Where did Berdan primers come from? name the inventor, name the country of origin
Hiram Berdan, US, bonus -- March 20, 1866

Where did Boxer primers come from? name the inventor, name the country of origin
Colonel Edward Mounier Boxer, of the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, England on October 13, 1866

It wasn't too long ago that I asked for a pound of flaming dirt and got nothing but a blank stare. I also know that he uses Unique.

Sent from my SCH-I545L using Forum Fiend v1.2.7.

Q: How can you seat and crimp in separate steps when using a 3 station progressive press?
A: By using resized/primed cases

Q: How can you reduce shell plate tilt/deflection on a rotary progressive press which may affect variation in OAL/COL?
A: By using resized cases

Q: How do you calculate bullet seating depth to determine whether you will compress the powder charge or not?
A: Subtract bullet length from cartridge length and subtract this number from case length. Then measure down final number from case mouth using the end of the calipers to the top of the powder charge.

Q: What determines maximum OAL/COL for a semi-auto pistol cartridge?
A: Barrel's leade/free bore and the start of rifling

Q: How do you determine the working OAL/COL for a semi-auto pistol cartridge?
A: By manually feeding and chambering from the magazine and releasing the slide without riding it (starting with the maximum OAL/COL and incrementally decreasing until the dummy round reliably feeds/chambers from the magazine).

Q: Can the working OAL/COL ever be longer than the maximum OAL/COL?
A: No but the working OAL/COL can be the same as maximum OAL/COL.

Q: What is the hardness of Glock barrel's surface compared to typical pistol barrels like KKM?
A: Older European process produced 68 Rockwell C hardness and newer USA process produces 64 Rockwell C compared to 42-45 Rockwell C for KKM barrels - http://www.kkmprecision.com/shopping-cart/?func=order&frompage=cat&cat=G

Q: Which barrel twist rate is faster between 1:10 vs 1:16?
A: 1:10

Q: What are the barrel twist rates for these barrels? Glock, Bar-Sto, KKM, Lone Wolf, Storm Lake, Wilson Combat:
A:
Glock - 1:9.84 for 9mm/40S&W/10mm, 1:15.98 for 357Sig, 1:15.75 for 45ACP/45GAP
Bar-Sto - 1:16
KKM - 1:20
Lone Wolf - 1:16
Storm Lake - 1:16
Wilson Combat - 1:10 for 9mm/40S&W, 1:16 for 45ACP

Q: What factors make Glock barrels less suitable for lead bullets?
A:
- Fast barrel twist rate (1:9.84 for 9mm/40S&W/10mm compared to typical 1:16/20)
- Very smooth and rounded rifling (hexagonal for 9/357/40/10 and octogonal for 45 caliber)
- Very smooth start of rifling
- Longer leade/free bore (than some factory/aftermarket barrels that are better suited for lead bullets)

Q: Will Lee Pro Auto Disk powder measure drift after a 5,000-10,000+ round reloading session?
A: No. Pro Auto Disk uses fixed volumetric disk holes that cannot "drift"

Q: What types of reloading presses are there?
A: Lee "Whack-A-Mole" classic loader, portable/hand type single stage, C and O type single stage, arbor type "benchrest" single stage, H type multiple station, Turret, Progressive turret (3/4 station), Progressive rotary (3/4/5 station), Commercial inline and rotary (Ammo Load/Camdex)

What is the Number one cause for handloads to not chamber and not feed in a semi-Auto?

Improper FL die set-up and not bumping the shoulder back far enough.

What is the #2 cause?
Crimping too much and imperceptibly buckling the shoulders.

By accident, because you didn't know the seating die was also a crimping die.

Or on purpose, because you did know, but didn't trim the brass all to the same length.

RC, yep I get your point. I simply used an average but I can see where a range might prove appropriate with the good old 22 LR.
