Im currently dropping my remington 700 sps varmint into my M24 stock. The safety doesn't engage unless the gun is cocked is this normal??? I don't remember any other 700's I have owned being like this... when It's cocked the safety works just fine...

Yes ... it's normal ... based on my three Remington 700s. If you open the bolt or remove the bolt completely you can move the safety back and forth.

The Jewell 40X replacement trigger for 700s works the same way too.

I sanded a tiny bit to much between the trigger housing and stock where the trigger goes through there's a tiny space between it not even as wide as a toothpick... is there any way I can fill it back in with maybe paint or somthing like that??? I don't think it will harm the performance but looking at it kind of bugs me...

The most professional fix would be to bed the rifle and used a bit of bedding compound to fill that small void.

Heres some pics guys!!! The whole thing was I didn't want to get the rifle bedded...

Just a remington 700 sps varmint so far... M24 stock, badger 20 moa base,leupold mark 4 rings,leupold mark 4...

chriso, a Badger Ordnance tactical bolt would work really well ... it's a cheap upgrade that you can do yourself for about $30 with a significant ROI.

That's a nice looking stock by the way but I'm surprised that you had to do any inletting around the trigger group. You could fix the gap with fiberglass/resin, epoxy, bedding compound etc but you might open up a big can of worms depending on your skill level and your expectations.

:)

Whats ROI??? Thanks for the compliment... Yeah I think Ill have my gunsmith do it and maybe a skim bedding or somthing... So how do you install the tactical bolt knob is it that easy???

Whats ROI???

Return On Investment. The Badger Ordnance tactical bolt knob increases the length of the bolt handle which serves two purposes. First, it gives you more leverage when operating the bolt and second, it moves the knob away from the scope making it a lot easier to work the bolt with a scope mounted or when wearing gloves. Since the knob is larger in diameter and longer than the stock knob, it makes opening/closing the bolt faster, easier and more positive.

So how do you install the tactical bolt knob is it that easy???

It's easy to do with basic tools such as a hacksaw, file and die (to cut the threads) and a drill press helps to keep the die aligned when starting to cut the threads. Basically, the objective is to end up with this ...

... followed by this ...

I've done two bolts like this now and I'd like to do the same to the bolt handle on my Alaskan Ti but the knob is "skeletonized" to reduce weight so the bolt handle is hollow where I need the threads to be. :(
