Anyone have any experience with outa box performance of the 700P in the magnum calibers? 7mm mag, 300 Win Mag, 300 Ultra mag. I dont handload so wonder if its pretty accurate with top of the line hunting ammo. Looking for a Long Range hunting type rifle. I know its almost the same as the Sendero with different stock, but not sure I like the stainless fluted barrel on the Sendero. 7mm mag interests me the most. Huge variety of ammo off the shelf for it. This would be a long range coyote and whitetail rifle. Most people have the rifle in .308 or .223, which do very well. Never read much about the long action though.

:D GO FOR IT!
The 7mm Rem.Mag. is MY favorite cartridge.
Everyone has their favorites.
I have a Browning BAR/BOSS Safari MkII and a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm.
It feels good to shoot the 7 and in the 700 Police model, it should really feel good with the extra weight taming the recoil a bit.
Why not?

Was giving advice to another soldier this week in regards to a long-range cartridge. I told him 7mm mag was probably perfect for him- flatter than .308, less recoil than .300 WM.

But then, if you get the 7mm you can't get access to the "fun" bullets such as those 30cal. surplus projectiles that used to be loaded for 30-06...

Following is a AP projectile tip sticking through the back side of a 1 1/4 inch thick plate shot from a 300WinMag PSS.....

Anyhow, you say you don't reload so it's less important really. 7mm RemMag would probably offer just as much long range potential as a 300WinMag in the same rifle.

The 300WinMag, mine atleast, is BRUTAL to shoot from the prone over long periods of time. My first day on the range I shot 40 rounds all from the prone while sighting in and running my dials from 100-500 yards to test them against my balistic software's predictions. At the end of 35 rounds I shot my first two 5 shot groups at 100 yards to get an idea of rifle/load accuracy. Under a great deal of stress while trying not to flinch I managed to fire off one rather gross group with Federal 190grn Gold Medal and then I tried one of my first handloads with 180grn Sierra Match Kings loaded long to match the generous throat of the chamber, my very first handloads beat out the Federal load by a good bit showing right about MOA performance.

I'm heading back out tomorrow for what is to be only my 2nd time out on the range shooting this rifle to record groups. Will be interesting to see what my groups look like while rested and not beaten up to see if they are better than my first outting.

Well a friend has a 700adl in 7mm mag. We take it to the range about once a month if that. 7mm isnt the cheapest to shoot thats for sure. 7mm mag kicks like a mule ... we can barely get though a box between the 2 of us without flinching by the end. But with a decent scope and on the bipod 1inch groups are possible by me and i SUCK at it.

Which reminds me...its been a while since we took the boomer out to the range, maybe my turn to buy ammo
