I just purchased a new 870 Express Super Mag with the synthetic stock.
I took it out and it really hangs up after the shot and seems like it doesnt want to pump. After the first shot it didnt want to cycle at all, even pressing the release lever wouldnt do it, I just kept trying to cycle the pump action and it finally went. It seemed to get better after a few rounds.
Has anyone else had something like this happen? is it normal for a pump action to hang up like this for awhile until broken in? I have a charles daly and it has never been hard to cycle.
I just dont want to have this happen while out hunting.

Hmm... that's odd. Cant say that happens to me w/ my wingmaster.

I have about 75 rds. through my wingmaster, and its chambered every single time.

Instead of being stiff though, mine feels a little "too easy" to rack the slide, no tug needed. Not sure if mine is suppose to be that easy to rack, but the slide action is smooth as butter.

I'd get a gunsmith to check it out and play around w/ the action.

Good luck

Sounds like a burr on the metal somewhere that's just working it's way out. Sit and rack the slide a few hundred times (not hard, but just working the gun) and you should work most of the burrs out. Problem is, if it's a sticky shell stop (which I'd suspect based on your description) the burr might work its way back to where you'd have the problem again. Like I said, work the gun a few hundred times and then break it down and give it a good cleaning. Lube it up lightly with some good synthetic and put it back together. Will solve your problem, most likely. If it doesn't, I'd contact Remington. All it needs is a good once over with a stone. Likely suspects are the staked-in shell stops. Next place I'd look would be the bolt assembly.

Make sure both action bars are straight. The other thing you can try is to disasemble and put it back together, somethimes somthing is just not sitting quite right.

I hope you've contacted Remington, because that is not normal. My 870 is really loose. On a shotgun the looser the better. Remington should be able to give the name of a factory repair shop in the area you live. I had my barrel re-blued due to a small flaw and it was free.

Is the action stiff when the gun is empty? Also check the shells you are using. I have seen burrs on shell rims hang actions up. Since it is new you should have broke it down, cleaned, and re-lubed it

My brothers 870 did the same thing, I don't think I ever heard what the problem was, but don't fire it. His warranty work was done quickly.
