I'm willing to bet that rifle-to-rifle variations within either Rem or Sav models, and definitely model-to-model variations, are greater than overall differences between the two. (Translation, it doesn't matter as long as you don't win the bad luck lottery and get a lemon rifle.)
I have a 700 LTR that is capable of shooting one ragged hole groups of five shots at 100 yards with a low-power (1.75-6x) scope with a heavy duplex reticle. When I shoot it, I usualy blow it up to .5" by pulling one shot. I know this sounds like web BS, but it's the truth. The rifle is far more accurate than I am capable of making it shoot. Having said that, I'll bet the Savage does the same...and probably for less money...
