I just shot Remington an E-mail, but I would like to hear members thoughts on my idea. I suggested that Remington should build an all-forged, wood and blue 1911A1 Identical to the Remingotn-Rand pistol of WWII. It is my personal opinion that, while the 1911 market is flooded with semi-customs, it is severely lacking in MIL-spec. guns, especially high-quality American made versions (of which there are none). What do ya'l think? Good idea or no?

American made?
From Remington?
And them selling guns from Yugoslavia and Russia now?

I doubt they are going to tool up for something new at US labor rates.

Oh, by the way, Remington-Rand is not Remington Arms.

One strange and interesting thing to me. Like Colt Walker revolvers, there seems to be more Remington-Rand 1911 pistols in existence than was manufactured!!:uhoh:

Remington-Rand is/was a typewriter manufacturer

Among other electronic consumer items still in production. They were also, IMO, the best of the GI 1911's ever made. That is why I suggest that pistol as a model, rather than the Colt.

I like my RIA, btw

Nothing wrong with RIA; good pistols. But they are not American made.

The difference between it and the Colt was a rollmark. Remington producing a Remington-Rand would be a fraud, much like Kahr producing the Thompson.

I saw a Remington Rand the other day in a pawn shop, tag said "WWII manufactured 1943, blah blah" The frame had Essex stamped on it.
$800.

I also know where an actual Remington Rand resides, but some Bubba goobered it up with a tuner rail. Poor gun.:(

Since Remington Arms wasn't associated with Remington-Rand I doubt that they would be interested in making The pistol you suggested. It would be nice if someone else was, but if the new pistol was a fully equal clone of the World War Two gun I'd expect the retail price would be around $900.00 or more, and I don't know if enough buyers would pay that.

I really think Smith & Wesson did it right when it comes to the 1911. Their lifetime warranty and excellent customer service is also a plus.

all technicalities aside, i would like to see remington make pistols again

Closest I could find is an Auto Ordnance 1911A1. Took some work but it shoots great now. Here's my Garand, Remington 1911A1 (1945 mfg) and a few accesories.

I probably would not have done it to an original, but...

what you describe as "goobered up" actually looks like a perfectly functional wadcutter gun, built for NRA Conventional Pistol matches. If the gun itself came into the possession of the current owner being refinished or totally unserviceable and missing parts, this conversion actually enhanced the value, especially if a well-known Bullseye gunsmith did the work.

That kind of pistol, done correctly, will sell for over $1000.00.

I've handled it. The rail was installed by Bomar. He just lowered the price to $500, and it's on gunsamerica if anyone wants it.

I don't particularly want it but you have to remember, when that gun was set up, accurizing an army surplus pistol available for $18.50 from the DCM was not considered desecration of a national treasure.

I don't fully understand the attraction of a roughly parkerized military surplus gun, except that all the nice blue peacetime guns have long since retreated into collections and there isn't much else to speculate on.

Just bear in mind, Remington Rand got the Singer Sewing Machine tooling and parts not used in the 500 S.M. guns. Now THERE'S a repro for you.
