holy **** I thought that was an m1a thing, what does a mcmillan or HS have over that, re stiffness and bedding???

Shilen is very accomondating for barrels, and reasonable priced. That 5r rifling is really cool I guess, based from a captured Russian AK74, has all the provenance and what-not, but costs. There's always better, but most mortals won't notice the difference aiui, though mortal bank accounts will. And bolts, ****ed if I know, never thought of shopping for one.

Unless you're spending over $1k the gunsmith will tell you to get rid of the stock anyway, it's their job. And at over $1k you're just buying an HS stock and the smith would get you a better one anyway.
The only benefit you'll get, aiui, buying from remington is that you'll get a stainless receiver. Can't get a stainless SPS (and throw away/sell the parts).

You need more than the barrel and bolt - you also need the receiver, the trigger hanger, and the trigger.
1) Get a McMillan.
2) If you're building up a rifle, give Jerry Stiller a call, and order one of his actions. Basically it's a pre-accurized Remington 700. I'd recommend getting Col. Billy Stevens to do the gunsmithing and chambering.

As always the best deal going for a barreled rifle action is to buy the bargain basement wal-mart special and sell off all the unneeded parts.
Most of the time you can buy the entire rifle cheaper than just the action.
But honestly in my opinion spending $700 on a stock for a rifle with a factory barrel is like putting a $2000 color change paint job on an 88 Subaru Justy.

I was considering buying a barreled action and furnishing it as well, but I came across that borescope video not too long ago and it immediately changed my mind. Just doesn't make sense in throwing your hard-earned cash in a stiff, bedded stock and utilizing a barrel that shows that much tolerance.

I'm sure Lilja didn't pick the worst factory barrel they could find for that video, or show it after 50-100 rounds went down it. I mean, it's not like they're selling barrels or anything.

Did you watch the video? Even the untrained eye can tell that the barrel in question is new.
Interesting video. I find it hard to believe that Remington's rifle barrels are in this kind of shape. That said, I am sure there are some barrels that come out of the factory with some imperfections such as this one. Whether or not this barrel is brand new is really unknown. Remington rifles have been around for many years and are very accurate. I think this video could have possibly been a bit "one" sided, as the creator of the of the video is selling custom made barrels, which look very nice.

While the barrel in the video appears to be trash I have no doubt that it would still shoot good. I've seen some real sewer pipes print pretty good groups. But it is a good example of what to expect from a factory tube.
BUT
let's be realistic here a factory tube isn't gonna bring you up to the potential that the stock in question offers. Sometimes shooting merely "good" isn't enough.
why spend so much money on just ONE part of a rifles total accuracy package? while you need a good stock to shoot dinky lil groups a stock alone won't get you there. Kinda the reverse of when you see an $800 precision rifle with a $120 BSA scope on top.
