Remington 700 Tactical .308

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at a good deal on one of these. Does anyone have one or know someone that does?

Remington tactical 308 20in barrel -- Scope suggestions?

Anything at all would be helpful.

Thanks

The Remington 700 XCR Compact Tactical, the Remington 700 SPS Tactical or the Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD? They all have 20" barrels.

I'd always check your local stores first. If they don't have it, maybe they can order it. Failing that, maybe SOG, Buds or Cheaper Than Dirt has one that you can have sent to your local FFL.

In my case I went to three local stores and found the SPS Tactical I wanted for the price I wanted to pay. Granted, this was before the AAC-SD came out - I kind of wish I waited a little.

I have one on hold. (Of course, there is no paperwork with it.) I am wondering if anyone know anything about them. If they shoot well.

Looking for positive/negative feedback on this item.

Thanks

should shoot as well as any other remington 700. don't worry about the 20 in barrel, .308's do well with shorter barrels. good luck

My 700 SPS Tactical shoots great. I even like the Hogue stock (most peole seem to replace them ASAP). The one reviewed on Sniper Central did too. People on other forums seem to rave about them.

This shells exiting the chamber are cool to the touch. It is a heavy rifle. It is an accurate rifle. I like the Houge stock. And I put a Nikon prostaff 3x9x40. I really like it. Eventually I want to put a better scope, but for up to two hundred yards--its fine!

Got 20 inch sps 223 here and it shoots great. I am sure the 308 would too. Nikon buckmaster is a very good affordable scope to take a look at. I have two of them and they have worked very well.

I just bought this very rifle today. I've been needing a dedicated scope gun and bolt actions just can't be beat for their simplicity and lack of weight compared to other actions.

Anyone have any photos of such setups?

I've been tossing around two scopes, both Nikon. Monarch or the Buckmaster

Seems like the rifle does well. Next step is a scope.

Any suggestions?

Is this for hunting or "tactical" / bench type shooting?

I put a ten power SWFA "Super Sniper" scope on mine. It is a great match in terms of quality and capability and I couldn't be happier. For hunting I'd want something lighter without the tall turrets and would look at comparably priced Leupolds, Nikons or Vortexes.

Mostly bench, but in the future hunting might be another option.

Which SWFA scope did you choose?

The SWFA "Super Sniper". SWFA has a line into the old Tasco "Super Sniper" scopes and sells them under their own banner. I bought mine because they were getting crazy good reviews on various boards I read. I have to say I'm glad I got it - it has lived up to the reviews I've read. It's tough, the glass is decent, the clicks are spot on, it does the "box test" perfectly, etc. yadda yadda yadda.

So far, the Nikon sounds like the best suggestion. Does the Buckmaster come with Turrets and the shade?

The Bushnell 3200 Tactical 3X9X40 on a 20 M.O.A base works well on these. You can pick them up new for not much over 200 bucks.

Unless you shoot competitively or at ranges past 600 yds, its a great value.

BTW, that set up should give you enough elevation for a 1000 yds, just better glass out there if you want to do it more consistently.

I am NO EXPERT.

Remington 700 SPS Varmit and 700 VTR, both .308, both with Nikon 6X18 Mil Dot Buck Master.

Turrets and shades are included.

I am tryin to sell mine its a great shooter but want to purchase a springfield M1A scout squad and cant afford both. send me a message with questions. There is more info on the buy and sell guns place with more pics. And it will easily shoot under MOA

I put a Bushnell 10x40 Elite 3200 Mil-Dot on my 308 Tactical. Great scope and I really like the fixed power. The reticle is very fine for target shooting, much better for target shooting than my Nikon BDC. It's mounted to Burris Xtreme two-piece bases and low rings and looks quite good. https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/932

I just picked up a Vortex 6-24x50 exclusive from SWFA and, for the money, this is an excellent deal for long-range target shooting. Probably makes a good varmint scope too. http://swfa.com/Vortex-6-24x50-Crossfire-Rifle-Scope-P43585.aspx It's quite the monster but looks fine on my SPS Varmint with a 26" bbl. I put a 1-piece 20MOA picatinny rail and mounted it with Burris Xtreme tactical low rings and it just clears the barrel.

'super, the optics are clear, and they works well without high cost. I would prefer a Leoupold scope, but we (son and I) didn't want to spend that much money until we learn better how to use the mil dot scopes.

Nikon 6X18 Mil Dot Buck Master really looks like the best deal. It should work for what I am looking to do. The longest range in the area is 600 yards.

Have a friend with an SPS Tactical in 308. Fantastic rifle. I've turned out groups with that gun that were some of my best in any rifle. Very accurate with his handloads using the Nosler Custom Competition bullets. He hogged out the Hogue stock a bit under the barrel to make sure that it was completely floated, but other than that it's as it came.

As for optics he had a Super Sniper on it, and I don't know how most of them are but the one he had was crap. I think it was a 14x or similar. He ended up dumping it and picking up a Nikon Monarch 6.5x20. Muuuuch better. That Nikon has been the perfect optics for his setup.

Not sure about your friend's SS scope, but I've been very happy with mine. If anyone in NoVa or Northern Neck wants to try it out for clarity, repeatability, box test, etc. drop me a PM.

I'll pick up my rifle this week. I have a el-cheapo scope to test it but won't be satisfied until I have my Nikon setting on it.
