I spent all Saturday afternoon helping my best friend buy his first bolt gun. Finally we found a very nice Remington with a Leupold XV-II.
He ended up returning it because a mutual friend claimed to have had one just go off while flippin the safety off.
I know of the case down the road in Bozeman where some idiot, (only way to put it) shot her kid while unloading her 700. Not sure why she was pointing the gun at her nine your old kid...
I have two 700's with hundreds of combined rounds through them. The 22-250 even has a couple trigger jobs. No issues.

Anyone have more info on it? Aren't 700 actions used by the military and Leo's? Also aren't a lot of custom builds based off Rems?

I Google it and of course I guess the liberal media took the story and ran
with it. When did all these happen?

I think my 22-250 was built in 2005 and the 243 was one of the Boone and Crocket editions from probably 2008-9.

He ended up buying a nice M70 in the end. Another top choice.

We covered this extensively in 2010 when this was in the news. Some say there was no issue or that only guns that had been altered were at fault. But there are too many first hand accounts of unaltered firearms going off with a flip of the safety to discount the issue. Either way we are not opening that can of worms again. I will see if I can dig up the old threads.
