I was at Wal-mart today and while looking at ammo, I saw they had a Remington Model 700 ADL. The price seemed reasonable, over a hundred less than 700 BDL's go for around here.

Looking through the glass case without actually holding the ADL, I could tell that the wood of the stock didn't look quite as nice. So, when I got home, I tried to go to Remington's website to compare the ADL and the BDL, to figure out what the price difference meant in terms of features. But, I couldn't find a listing for the 700 ADL on Remingtons Site.

Is the 700 ADL some 'Made-for-Walmart' only thing, or discontinued or what?
Anybody have the specs on one?

Thanks.

Greg

the adl has been discontinued.

the difference between an adl and a bdl:
quality of wood
blind magazine on the adl
price
finish (adl is not finished as nicely - very utilitarian finish)

parts fit is the same between the two (rings, bases, triggers, barrel)... converting an adl to a bdl is easy and inexpensive. converting a bdl to adl is also easy and inexpensive.

adl's are very popular as a basis for a custom gun, and for folks who want an inexpensive gun. the adl has been replaced by the sps.

Let's see...

Wow, look at that...their website even says the SPS is the next generation of the ADL Synthetic

And it doesn't have iron sights like the one at Wal-mart did. So, it looks like if I want wood and iron sights, I need to go with the BDL or go back to wal-mart and see what other calibers they have the ADL in(the one on display was only a .243.

Thanks for the info.

iron sights?? i can't tell you how many rem 700's i've bought that i needed to find the blasted plug screws for to cover up the unsightly holes in the barrel from the irons... oh well, a step in the right direction, finally. iron sights are for levers, clean barrels are for bolt guns.

as for the stock, well, it isn't like the adl wood stock was anything special. not a big deal to me to lose it.

as for the bdl, i hope they did away w/ the iron sights on those, too... but don't know for sure.

the adl is/was available in a few calibers, but since they have been discontinued for about 7 months now, you are getting down to the nitty gritty of what's left...

Huh?

converting a bdl to adl is also easy and inexpensive.

Is that with or without a completely new stock, since the former's floorplate and box magazine would be removed to make the latter? :scrutiny:

I like iron sights on my scoped hunting guns. It's a good fallback plan in case something happens (Lord forbid) to the scope - like when one of our horses reared up and the rifle slid out of the scabbard, and crashed scope-first onto the rocky ground. The iron sights saved the hunt. ;)

BTW, Priv8ter, a 700 ADL is still head and shoulders a better gun than that other Remington product found at WalMart - the 710. That's the gun Remington should discontinue.

Uh-oh....

Yeah, the BDL's still have iron sights on them. They are just about the only bolt rifle that does anymore. It's one reason I am looking at them.

Well, I can see we have some philisophical differences. My reason for wanting iron sights on my new bolt gun is purely sentimental. The first gun I went elk hunting with was an old borrowed -06 that had the see-through scope rings on it, and ever since then, I have wanted one. I'm just sappy that way.

Of course, now I'm in a quandry, because I've wanted a .35 Whelen for a long time also, and they only come in the CDL, which doesn't have iron sights.

Decisons, decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the help, dakotasin.

gewehr- please... you can't possibly tell me you've never in your life seen wood remington bdl take-offs for minimal outlay? the last 3 i got were free, just pay the shipping. the last 2 i got rid of were free, as long as the 'buyer' paid shipping (still have the 3rd)...

as for the iron sighs thing... well, i never really learned to shoot irons that well. as such, i never use them, and to me they are just extra stuff... i understand how somebody would like them, but i'm not one. maybe if the rifles came w/ a peep? dunno...

the thing that is really nice about adl's, and the reason i prefer them over a bdl, is the slim 'feel' that they have due to the absence of a floorplate...
