I was down at the local ranch store and they are clearing out their Rem 700s. They have stainless synthetics for $466 and blued synthetics for $406.

Is it a good deal or great deal?

What's the going price for a new BDL short action?

You'll want to replace the stock most likely, although try it first - a few find them OK, most want something a little more rigid. I got the 26" varmint barrel BDL in blue for $439 last year and was pretty pleased - so those are good prices.

BDL simply means it has a floorplate, ADL means blind magazine. They have made both ADL and BDL in almost every possible configuration. I've seen both with fancy walnut, cheap birch, cheap plastic, high end synthetics, stainless, polished blue and matte blue.

At those prices I'm betting he was talking about the recent run of ADL's, possibly the SPS. If they are ADL that is a better than average price for the stainless. I've seen them in blue for closer to $350. If SPS, that is a good price n both. The SPS is simply a BDL with a cheap synthetic stock and matte finish, but since they have a floorplate are worth a bit more than the ADL.

The most common higher end BDL's are running around $700-$750. Long action and short action should be the same price.

These are 700 BDLs, they have metal hinged floorplates and are on sale. Normal price on the stainless is $719, blued is $660 but the store is known for having high prices. They have these on clearance because they are replacing their line with the SPS.

Comparing to what Bud's sells the current SPS lineup for ($500 shipped, plus whatever your FFL charges for a transfer) I'd say that's a fair price particularly for stainless.

You'll see some hunting season package deals that will put the base model rifles in the $400-$450 range in the next couple of months. Given recent feedback on Remington quality I'd probably take an older BDL over a current SPS if given the choice.
