I have a Remington 700 in .270Win that has the J-lock on the bolt shroud. I am thinking of replacing it with a Callahan unit.

This one here : http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=375824&t=11082005

I was wondering if you guys had replaced yours, and if its just a straight swap, or if there are any concerns with firing pin length of the new unit.

Anything I need to know before I make the swap? I was under the impression it was just a straight change out, but want to be sure before I get started. Hate suprises , lol

Thanks for the help ! :D

link didn't work for me...

changing out the j-lock on a 700 is easy. you need a new shroud (or you can re-use the old one if you want), and you need an iss firing pin. the pin is longer than a non-j-lock pin. a non-j-lock pin will not fire the primer on a j-lock rifle.

i've swapped several of both the j's and non-j's and it is straightforward and easy.
