Horsemany is right... that Leupold would be a good choice.
I have an (old school) Redfield LE-12 with the dual reticles for range finding - LE=Law Enforcement -- (discussion of it here: http://www.benchrest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50794 ) but in the novel a Leupold MK IV ER/T is the scope on the Sendero. I'd definately recommend a 30MM tube rather than a 1" simply for light gathering capability.
I'll get out the digi camera this morning and snap a pic of the rig. Unfortunately, it's a camera my daughter broke the rear display screen on and of course gave BACK to Dad for Christmas. It doesn't take indoor pics very well, but I'll give it a shot or two.
