I’m not much for punching paper for groups sizes beyond finding what works for the given rifle. This is how I practice for varmint hunting. I set my steel targets at 288 to 300 yards. I use the small steel for practicing head/neck shots. I use the larger steel for practicing body shots. I keep a paper target nearby so if my hit-ratio drops below 80% on the small targets, or drops below 90% hits on the larger target, I can fire a round into the paper and assess my POA to POI.
The dualing tree is designed for up to .30-06 Srpg, and the swinging target is designed for up to a .308 Win. The swinging target didn’t hold up so well. I had a life-size, swinging steel woodchuck target but it wore out. I need to get a new one for practicing out to 500 yards. The first picture is the M700 Police. Picture two shows the size of the dualing tree targets. Pictures 3 & 4 show both the size, and the ill-effects on the steel swinging target. May it rest in “pieces”. <<Psych!>>
I do have these on video clips of about 15 to 17 minutes each, so I can assess where the impacts are, how windy it was at the point of the shot.
