I'm trying to fix a "No overtravel" problem on a used Model 700 ADL, an older model.
I have adjusted any number of Model 700 triggers before, but this has me stumped.
The rifle will cock, and fire with a very light trigger, but there is NO, and I mean NO overtravel at all. You really can't even feel the trigger itself move when the gun "fires". You just apply a little pressure, and "click", no perceptible movement in the trigger.
All adjustment screws had the sealant on them, so I don't think anyone was messing with it, but thats hard to believe.
I have the overtravel screw backed out almost to the point of falling out, and the pull weight backed out a couple turns. The sear adjustment screw will turn freely about 1/4 turn, in or out, but thats about all I can get without getting too aggressive on that small screw head.

It's almost like the trigger is "frozen solid".

Thoughts/opinions MUCH appreciated!

UNCLE ALVA, I BELIEVE I CAN HELP YOU WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT FIRST A FEW QUESTIONS I NEED YOU TO ANSWER:

1. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE COMPLETE TRIGGER GROUP (Walker Fire Control Mechanism) FROM A REMINGTON MODEL 700/722/721 SERIES ????

2. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DETAIL STRIP & CLEAN THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY AFTER REMOVAL ???

I HAVE 25+YEARS OF EXP WITH THIS TRIGGER & WILLING TO ASSIST YOU.

remington, puts some kind of coating from the factory and it restricts movement and pull weight, simply take the action out of the stock and remove bolt and any scope and let the back of the action and trigger assembly soak in a cup of laquer thinner or gasoline for a couple hours, this will remove any coating and crude on the trigger group. Then oil and adjust as you like,

No I do not, but I expect that my Encyclopedia of Modern Firearms will spell it out for me, there are only two pins I believe.

No, I will probably just replace it with a stock takeoff trigger from Gunbroker or someplace similar.

When I blasted out the trigger with gun scrubber, I noticed a few small metal chips or flakes on the cloth wrapping the trigger. I suspect the sears are damaged?

Uncle alva:

The remington trigger only has one sear. It is steel & hard chrome plated. I have examined remington triggers internally that are 50+ years old, heavily used, & no damage to any internal parts was observed. I could easily teach you how to remove & strip the trigger for a detail cleaning, reassembly, lube, & adjustment, but it might be easier for you to see it in print & in photos.

Go to google & type in: Removing & disassembly of rem 700 triggers
press the go button & watch what pops up---lots of info.
