I just bought a Remington 700p, I have the leupold mark iv for the glass but I was wondering what your guys opinion was on using a badger ordanance scope rail vs simply mounting the scope rings to the rifle. Is this worth doing or is it simply a looks thing.

Ok what the op is asking is the rail mnting system a looks thing or does it have a purpase. To answer question yes it has lots of purposes. A weaver style is for strength and straitnes, were as a picitiny rail is for strength, straitness and gives you the ability to move the scope forward or backwards for optimal eye relief. Also the front of the rail can be precisionly cainted for longer rang shooting, need to make up for adjustment outside the boundries of the scopes capabilities. Like up to 1000 yard compition.

BO is good stuff, but an Egw scope base will work just fine. The big dollar mounts, rings, and scopes are super tough for severe abuse in the field, so LE or Snipers don't loose their zero. If your not beating tent stakes in with your gear, you probably can get along with less. I prefer one piece mounts over 2 piece set ups, but its just what I like, nothing wrong with either way.

If your refering to one piece integral ring mount, I've seen them, but never considered them.
