If you were looking for a used Remington pump rifle, in whatever caliber, is there any reason you might prefer either the 760 or the 7600 over the other? They seem to be pretty similar to me......

I have a 760 I have used for many years,..late 70's. Seems a bit better built and a lot smoother than the newer 7600 versions I have handled. Just my take though. My 760 has NEVER in those years given me any issues.

the 7600 brrl is completely free-floated. The accuracy is right up there with Rem 700.. same brrl blanks are used in production, but I think they always were. Barrel removal was easier on the older 760, but that also attributed to slight loss of accuracy. The 7600 no longer has the mid-brrl attachmnt point for action/slide. Brrl removal on the 7600 now requires a competent gunsmith's skill and specialized tools, like the Rem 700 rifles

Scary. I was just thinking about this when it was mentioned in the completely unsactioned zombie thread.* And you can 10rnd clips too.

*Note: This post has nothing to do with zombies. Please don't hurt me. :D

I have vintage (first-year run) 760's in 30'06 and .308
Love 'em! The '06 is very accurate, haven't found ammo the .308 likes yet...

by specialized tools I assume you mean screwdriver (wrench for the 7400)

If you can change your own oil you can take down a 7600, not that there's really any reason to mind except for maybe that once every 10 years cleaning and greasing

Yes, the 760 is better for shooting iron sights. The 7600 has a slightly thicker barrel. The 760 is retro-cooler. Both are virtually the same rifle and ultra-reliable.
