I've been thinking of buying a Remington 7600 pump rifle in .308 Winchester, with the synthetic stock. I like the rifle, but I prefer iron sights and the factory stock has a comb that is too high for me to comfortably get my head down where I want it when using iron sights.
Does anyone know if the synthetic stock from Remington 870 or 1100 will work on a 7600? They appear to be very similar, don't have a high comb, and I can get either one very inexpensively.
Thanx.

Dave

I don't know the answer to your question but another option would be to look for a fifties era 760 at some of the shows, Gun List or on the net. There's still a lot of them around and are priced pretty reasonably ($350.00 to $450.00, depending on condition, of course). I'm "old school", I guess, because I much prefer the classic looks of the original 760s to the later ones. The advantage (disadvantage if you plan on scoping one) of the older models is that the stock is designed for use with irons. I have a Williams FoolProof receiver sight mounted on mine.

However, if you insist on a synthetic stock, well , we are talking about the fifties!

I consider the .300 my "In Case" rifle. When hunting for caribou or deer I would much rather use my .25-06 but usually grab the .300. The .300 is the smallest I want to have in case of a bear encounter.

If bear was my primary target I would get .338. Good for moose too.
