ACP230,
I have that Shotgun News, but haven't had a chance to look through it yet. Where are those 870's?

I own just shy of a dozen 870's and the most I have paid for ANY of them was $219 and that was for a like new P model about two years ago.

I have bought them for as little as $80 for a beat up 70's vintage TB but can almost always find one for about $150 if I look at all. Forget Shotgun News if you are serious about finding one. Hit the pawn shops, educate yourself about what you are looking for and you too will find one for well under $200-and a good one at that.

I bought a brand-new 870 Super Mag with wood furniture from Wal-Mart for $175 when they were clearing them out. Then there was a $50 rebate on it, too.

So it ended up being $125 for a new super mag. :D

Hey!

I got that same deal, nice ExSupMag on the cheap.

So I've got a question. Can I get a standard 18" barrel to swap out? Or do I have to search high and low for one with a 3.5" chamber? I'd rather just get the HD barrel and make sure to use 3" or 2.75" shells with it. Think it'll fit?

I don't know where in the Midwest you are, but if you're close to an Academy, you could try them.

NIB 870s with a free aluminum case can be had for $199 on sale. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

Or you could just save yourself the trouble and go straight to the Police or Wingmaster models.

i just bought an 870 about an hour ago for $239 out the door. i didnt really know which i wanted (870 vs 500). i liked features of both, especially the position of the safety on the 500. very smart. but this was far and away the cheapest i had seen yet, it felt good, was in reasonable condition, and had a nice long barrel for killing clays. so it came home with me.

Congrats. Good choice.

I never did get the "safety position" issue with the mossy versus others. I find the 500/590 safetys to be a drag as I must readjust my grip to move them. I can take my 870 safety off with a little pressure from the middle joint of my trigger finger. The only advantage that I see for the mossy-style safety is for lefty-righty swapping and quite frankly, who cares about the safety in that situation? If I were in a situation where I had to transition from my right side to my left, I'd not be likely to be in need of taking my safety off.

Now I think the Mossberg is a fine shotgun but I just cannot understand why the safety always comes up.

In any case, you will no doubt be well-served with your new pumpgun.

Good luck,

Mike

Rock,

Look in your manual, I think on page 9.
You can put any 870 barrel on your SuperMagnum that you want EXCEPT for a Special Field barrel.

The 18" (18-1/2" actual length) can be had from Remington for $121.00 + tx + S/H.

#24620 BBL 12/18 IC BS EXPRESS

I bought this very barrel and it does fit my SuperMag.

Congrats, Sean. Great shotgun, good price.

That 18 1/2" barrel will work on the Super Maggie Numb, but the shell length is limited by the chamber. No es importante, 2 3/4" shells work for most anything.

Mark Kitterman at www.summitgunbroker.com has beautiful 870 riot guns starting at 195.00

I bought the one pictured at the top, very good condition, internals as new. These were mo state pen shotguns, very happy with it.

My first shotgun was a 12 gauge Remington 870 express from Walmart back in 1989 or 1990. If I recall correctly it was about $190 back then.

As for the Remington 870, it was a great reliable gun that never gave me a problem. It fired everything I put through it without so much as a hiccup. In my opinion the 870 is the standard that all shotguns strive to meet.
