Recently, I decided to buy a .410 and am looking at either a Remington 870 or a Browning BPS. I've had single shots and a Stevens SS, but have decided I want a pump. I would like to hear from those of you who have had experience with these shotguns. Thanks for your help:)

when walmart closed out the 870 expresses in 410 and 28ga,i got one of each for myself. i like the 28ga better then the 410, but thats just me,both work like they should with no problems at all. i,m just a better shot with the 28ga with one oz. of #6,s in win high brass. eastbank.

Between the two, IMO the BPS is the better gun. Besides the lefty friendly tang safety, it drops the expensive empties right at your feet and has choke tubes. It also has some more heft than the Remington. I am just not a fan of the bottom load / bottom eject gun at all.

I have an older 870 Express in .410 bore that is a whole lot of fun to shoot. I picked up a late 80's version off the used rack with a bunch of character. If you get one, pick up a magazine cap weight as it makes the gun much more shootable. I paid $16 from Numrich for mine. One of the previous owners of my gun had the fixed full choke opened to a Modified. I have a blast shooting skeet with it and will most likely use it for dove next fall.

Which ever one you get, I would invest in a .410 reloader. A Mec Jr would pay for itself in short order.

I have a Mossy 500 in .410 which is my fav squirrel gun. Just another option.
+1. The Mossberg might not be as refined as the BPS, but it is equal to the 870 Express, IMO. An 870 Wingmaster would outshine them all. Again, just my opinion.

I'm leaning toward the Wingmaster, which I prefer over the Express because of the finish; just my personal preference. The BPS is nicely finished too. Grew up shooting a Wingmaster 12 ga, with which I killed many pheasants, so am partial to it. We'll see what I find at the Tulsa Gun Show 10 days from now.

I have both the BPS Hunter in .410 and a Wingmaster 870LW in .410.

The fit and finish of the Browning are superior to the Remington.
Not by much, but it is obvious when held side by side.

I don't think there is a great difference in the price of these guns, so
you might as well buy the better of the two.

The Browning comes with Invector choke tubes. I like that a lot.
The Browning also has bottom eject for another plus (I reload and
don't like to chase hulls).
I also prefer the forearm release behind the trigger guard rather than in front.
I don't really care about the position of the safety. I shoot clay targets
and don't hunt.

.410's sure are fun to shoot!
