I figure real world camo price will be 400 and something. I'm not sure the camo is worth the extra. I like it on my mossberg because it's such a tough finish, but this thing already has the tough finish. :D If It had a tang safety, I'd be tripping over myself to get down to the gun shop and look at it, or, if there was a left handed version, maybe. Anyway, I LOVE the concept of the polymer coat for what I would do with it. I think it might just be a winner in the duck marsh.

"Aren't you the one that said Remington couldn't even compare to the Nova?"

No, all I said that was the Nova had seeming indestructibility. A statement that was quite offensive apparently. And I am not bashing on Remington at all. Their new product may be good it may not be.

Arkel23 The 887 is the 870 in armor, they are the same gun.

The design of the bolt looks totally different to me, with two locking lugs vs. one on the 870.

I wonder how the barrel plastic covering will hold up when the barrel gets hot. I have had my 870 barrel get too hot to touch....add the insulating effects of the plastic, and there could be trouble.

Not to get anybodys blood boilin here everyones got there opinion but i dont know of many profesional guides that shoot novas all the guys i guide with shoot 870's the 887 may be an ugly ass gun but its a pump shotgun not a chick magnet if you want a gun to look flashy and pretty for your buddies and the bottom of your boat go buy a Browning Silver as far as Browning pumps go they got it right when they named it the bps Big Pile of ****

I know a few duck guides down here. I don't consider many of 'em gun experts. A few of 'em ain't duck experts either. Pro? Bwaaaa, ha, ha, ha. I know some that are good and I know a particular goose guide, daddy owns half the county, that I will continue to use. Hard to hunt geese without an outfitter if you don't own a rice field around here. The marsh hunting on public land isn't that great for geese. It's fine for ducks, but not for geese. Maybe I'll get my bird lease back next year, don't know. It was decent for 300 bucks a year.

I'd love to own a BPS, might in a few years, but really, my Mossberg does a good enough job. I've used it the last 20 years and got my first one, a used Revelation 310 actually, when they mandated steel shot and I retired my old SxS. The marshes down here are tough on finishes and the standard 870 express finish is a rust magnet as I posted earlier. Its ergos also suck for a lefty which is something the Browning and the Mossberg have that the 870 don't. I'm not sure why anyone would call a BPS a piece of whatever, but to each his own I guess. You know what opinions are like, everybody's got one.

A5s are fugly

LOL

Suddenly, I no longer feel like I'm all alone in the world.

I like the polymer coating concept, just don't know anything about the gun.

Same here. I mean, for a good knockaround tool -- I wouldn't rush out to get a nice double gun covered in plastic.

It looks like Remington finally did something about the 870/1100/1187 trigger. Points for that, anyway.:)

Looks like Remington just made their version of the 710 rifle in a shotgun.

Not too sure about that. The 710 WAS a cheap P.O.S. The 887, at an entry-level MSRP of $399 per the Remington site, is priced just slightly higher than the lowest priced Express 870's.

Well if it's is MORE DURABLE than the 870 as Remington claims, and MORE RELIABLE than the 870 as Remington claims, and costs less or about the same, why would anyone buy an 870 any more? Just asking.....

why would anyone buy an 870 any more

Well as this thread shows, some folks just can't warm up to polymer. They think wood/blued is the only way to go.

Personally, I like the 'plastic' look and would consider the 887 depending on how it actually stacks up against my Nova for fit, etc.

887 made in usa

just got back from remington. went on the factory tour. the 887 is made in ilion ny along with h&r shotguns. if you are around ilion ny check out the factory tour, its great.

I just picked one up this morning. I have to say I love the look and the feel. Being a lefty I am just a bit concerned with the shells flyin back at me but then again its a plastic case and not a brass so my concern is almost a non issue.

Look out Dove here I come!!!

I very much like the look of this. I am in the market for a 12 gauge pump and now this adds another option. In all honesty I really hope it takes off and causes a price drop in new 870's or an influx of use 870's. But if I could get a deal I would gladly choose this one instead.

Gun Tests just did a comparison of the Nova and the 887.

Their example of the 887 was a serious POS, very poor build quality. They were still waiting on another one at publication time, to see if this is typical, or just early-production problems to be worked out.

All I'll say is, after reading their review, with pictures, I sure won't be considering the 887.

Apparently, there's less steel and more plastic than I'd thought, also.

Even the American Rifleman whitewash indicated that the handling isn't too good. Gun Tests expanded on that a bit. Sure doesn't sound like the 870 to me.

So, for...
the one that said Remington couldn't even compare to the Nova?

Gun Tests says so, too, in no uncertain terms.

I handled another one at the shop yesterday, just to check my impressions again.

Honestly, I hate the thing. It handles like total crap.

Love it or hate it for other reasons, Remington's 870 is one of the best-handling shotguns out there. The Benelli Nova, the 887's intended competition, is, as well.

Why couldn't Remington make a new gun that handles well?

"...Apparently, there's less steel and more plastic than I'd thought, also."

More plastic than expected? Maybe you should research a bit more before you criticize it. According to one review, the barrel is encased in 0.041" of the polymer. The exterior and the interior surfaces of the receiver also are encased in polymer. There is plenty of steel there.

I for one like the gun and will eventually buy one. I hope to get one for next spring.
