One of our LGS' has a decent supply of 22LR. The lowest cost per round is the Remington Bucket O' Bullets. I've used their Thunderbolt ammo with decent results. One to two rounds per box of 500 fail to fire. Can I expect similar results from their Bucket O'Bullets or is it worth paying a little more for other brands?

I would expect similar or slightly worst depending on how abused that bucket was in handling. When you put that many rounds in a buck, loose, they tend to damage the ones on the bottom if it gets handled roughly. I bought one for each of my nephews and the failure rate has probably been 1-2 rounds per ~200rd fired.

I’ve had very good luck overall with the Remington bucket of bullets. Less than 10 duds per bucket…shooting in a ruger sr22, aWalther p22, and an old marlin 80.
Well worth the cost. I’ve got an unopened one in my stash now. Last one I bought cost about $60 for the bucket. What’s the per round price at your lgs

I've had good luck with several bucket o'bullets. Thunderduds not so much, though they are accurate for me. But the golden bullets work great in my guns. No more duds than any 'quality' brand like CCI and far fewer than winchester IME.

the cheap remington ammo is OK, for cheap ammo. I had Federal LRN have 2 fail to fire in about 150 rounds so, it was pretty cheap ammo also, and just dumped in a box of like 375 piled in. In my limited experience I like the cheap Remington ammo, but it creates a lot of fouling everywhere very quickly. Out of the Federal box, both duds fired on the second attempt. on a few semi-autos that are very consistent, the Remington Thuderbolt is the only ammo that causes a few fail to eject (stovepipe) pretty consistently after a few mags. Like it in revolvers to practice, no issues.

It's $114 for the bucket, so a little over $.08 per round.

They were $104 per bucket. I've been shooting a lot lately, so I picked up 3 buckets.

People always rag on the T'bolts all to hell but my 10/22 likes em just fine. My G44 has choked on a few but a couple few duds out of 500 is beyond acceptable to me. I would not get in a huff if I had a few duds out of a 500rd brick of premium match grade .22lr.

Of course the lowest cost options aren't going to win matches and be super accurate but for plinking, I'm not looking to throw money away on the match grade stuff if I'm not gonna be rested on the bench.

I would, I started shooting NRL22 laste year and I have been through nearly 6 bricks of SK Standard+ in the past year and I have yet to have a single dud in all that ammo. Even for cheaper plinking ammo I can't remember the last time I had a dud with CCI ammo including bulk packed offerings. I happily pay the extra cost to not have to deal with duds. They are called Thunderduds for a reason. If you can accept that, have at it. I would rather spend a bit more and get ammo that is reliable.

I’m using these for plinking, shooting at steel targets. I’m ok with a few duds for this purpose. The next lowest priced ammo they had was $.10 a round. I’ll give these a try for the 20% savings. If they don’t work out I won’t buy them again. If the feedback I received was too negative I would have taken a pass.

My reliability requirements for plinking aren't as stringent as those I would have for defensive/carry ammo. I guess if I was shooting matches or competing I would pay the extra for the reliability and accuracy edge but for casual use, I'm not going to spend 2x the $$$ to save myself the mere inconvenience of having to shuck a round out onto the ground, 1 or 2 out of 500 Ymmv.

I guess I'm just lucky. I bought 2 cases of Thunderbolts (10k rounds). Didn't have a single ftf. 2 rifles shoot their groups with Thunderbolts.

Back in the 70s, CCI was known for having 1-2 duds per 100 rounds. But, we bought whatever was cheapest. Get a dud, rotate and try again. Most fired. Occasionally, a 3rd, even 4th strike.

During the last .22 shortage, I purchased 2 Federal Auto Match bulk packs. Had 8 squibs in 120 rounds. Much better to have no bang, than to have a pop or poof. Twice the squib lodged in the barrel, a 5 1/2" barrel. Had fired ~15 rounds and had first pop. Another cylinder full and another squib. I actually saw the bullet leave the barrel and fall to ground. 6' in front of me. Another cylinder and the bullet made it 5 1/4". I had a brass rod and cleared the barrel.
Made another 50 or so rounds trouble free, then a couple of pops. Another 20 rounds and a poof. Cylinder bound up. Bullet didn't make it into the barrel.

I was done. Contacted Federal. They had me return what I had left. 2 weeks later, no explaination or apology, I get a coupon for 2 bulk packs.

To the OP:

1. It is CHEAP, bulk ammo. That is what you get.
2. MAYBE! It all depends on what you are doing. I buy cheap bulk. I buy good hunting ammo. I buy target ammo. What I shoot depends on what I am doing. If grandkids are around, range bag has a couple boxes of the cheapest I can find. They WILL shoot it up.

I shoot a lot of.22 out of quite a few different guns and I was always puzzled by complaints about Remington Golden Bullet's. As far as I was concerned they were the most reliable after CCI HV 40 grain. It turns out in almost every case the Golden Bullets were from the bucket's of bullets while all mine were from the 100 round plastic boxes, As someone posted the bucket of bullets get rattled around and banged together often causing deformation.

My 10/22 shoot the Bucket of Bullets (bulk bucket of Golden Bullets) just fine.
My problem with them is that they get my hands dirty while handling them. Fingers are really dirty after loading a few magazines.

I stopped in that LGS to look for a magazine, and they're having a 20% off sale on all 9mm and 22LR. At $.06 a round I picked up another bucket and will grab one more with the understanding that the reviews are mixed.

I multitask with them I plink and practice jam clearing. I shoot them in a kimber .22 converision unit on a Colt 1911 goldcup. In my rig they shoot well with the right shooter ( usually not me ) 2-3" groups at 25yds.

I like Goldens, but anymore I'm done with loose packed bulk 22LR ammo once I shoot up my stash. Going forward, I'll plink with the 50 round boxes of 40gr Blazers, 40gr Aguila and 50 round packs of Goldens if Remington still packages them that way.

The only problem I have had with the bucket of bullets (Rem. Golden Bullet) is a few were slightly tweaked at the end of the case and didn’t easily feed in my revolvers. Good plinking ammo and fairly accurate from all of my .22s.
