Remington Rand Model 1911A1

I recently came across a model 1911A1 Remington Rand that was for sale at a local gun show. The pistol had the serial number 1. Thats right, 1. He told me it was the first Remington Rand manufactured. The asking price was $7500. Real or Fake??

We will need detailed pictures, a metalurgical sample, and then a hands on examination to be sure..................

Anyone with a set of letter punches can make up a military looking receiver. You really need to know the font subtleties, patina, even milling marks can be a clue.

At the very least stop in and ask if you can take a few photos- If you do id be interested in seeing them on here.

IIRC (and if I don't I know someone will chime in) manufacturers were issued blocks of serial numbers to use during WWII. 1 would have been used long before.

So fake it screams, "I'M A FAKE!!!!". There was no S/N 1 Remington-Rand 1911A1.

Could be a "Lunchbox" . Any proof marks? Some RR's were carried out of the factory in lunch boxes, a piece at a time. Easy to add the "1".

There have been a lot more serial numbers filed off or faked than guns carried out in lunchboxes. If you have such a gun, it is up to you to prove it is not a pilfered weapon with the serial number illegaly deleted or altered.

Hey I own Serial #1 so it has to be a fake! I also have the Kaisers Luger that he hunted deer and boar with in the Black Forest. And to top it off I have John Brownings personal 1911A1 and his Colt Ace! I hear the Fuhrers personsal P38 has been available at alot of the Ohio gunshows along with the table cloth from his wedding reception to Eva complete with gravy stains!

The list goes on and on.... I have heard some really farfetched stories that go along with the faked goods.

There is no Remington Rand serial #1. R-R serial numbers start with 1,279,699. The thing is a self-evident fake.

Note: There was a Remington - UMC M1911 with serial #1. Their serial numbers ran from 1 to 21,676, and duplicated Colt numbers. This was a WWI thing.

Checking other sources, it seems that Remington-Rand serial numbers started with 916,405. Nevertheless, my point remains the same.

Speaking of M1911A1 serial numbers, here's a mystery: I have a Colt Commercial M1911A1 with serial number C217xxx. Yet according to the serial number tabulations, Colt stopped commercial production in 1942 with serial number C215018 and didn't resume until 1946 with serial number C221001. Is my pistol an impossibility or are the charts wrong?
