Remove bolt from Savage Mark II-F .22

Proud new Savage owner, and Im trying to take the bolt out -- following the instructions it says to put the safety on, pull trigger and pull back bolt handle at the same time. I am cranking pretty hard on both and the bolt is not pulling out rearward. I'm pulling hard enough that the back half of the bolt is starting to separate and I can see a spring inside, but the front half of the bolt is staying put in the receiver.

I found another THR thread asking this question and they say to push down the lever on the right side of the firearm... all I see on mine is the obvious bolt handle and safety lever.

Please advise, thanks

yeah, turn the safety off.
it'll come out then. Mine has never come out with the safety on.
I actually snapped the trigger when i tried to follow the manual.
that certainly made me mad.

Just turn the safety off, pull the trigger, and it will fall out, given that it is facing down.

ok, got it -- the problem is also that i had the bolt fully open as well -- the bolt should be closed or open to the first notch
